Now Playing: GS News Update: Monster Hunter XX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

Update: Capcom has reached out to GameSpot to clarify that it has no plans to localize Monster Hunter XX for Switch "at this time." The original story has been updated to reflect that. Originally, when asked, "Are there any plans to bring Monster Hunter XX, the Switch version, over here?" to which a representative for the company clearly replied, "No."

Original story: Capcom has confirmed to GameSpot that it has no plans to localize the Nintendo Switch version of Monster Hunter XX "to announce at this time."

Originally released in Japan for 3DS earlier this year, Monster Hunter XX is an expanded version of Monster Hunter Generations, featuring additional quests, monsters, and other content. Capcom announced a Switch release for the game last month. In addition to high-resolution visuals, the Switch version also supports online cross-platform play with the 3DS game. Players can also transfer their save data over from the 3DS release to Switch.

Capcom unveiled a new home console installment called Monster Hunter: World at this year's E3. World will be the first Monster Hunter title to allow players from other regions to hunt together and is releasing in early 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and later PC. You can read our impressions of Monster Hunter: World here.

In other E3 2017 news, Telltale has confirmed it's making a new IP, while the developers of Call of Duty: WWII say they are trying to make the Saving Private Ryan of video games. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest from the show.

Then **** you Capcom. I'm sick of playing MH on handheld. It's too goddamn small. Console, PC, or nothing.

Avatar image for consolehaven

@sylentmana: So, you must be happy now, yes?

Avatar image for FLEEBS

They better bring something to Switch in the US.

Avatar image for obsidian_born

*For now.

They want you to buy the 3DS version first.

Avatar image for tonyleo01

So I was thinking about buying MH Generation. Now I'm not.

@zuik: Change.org petitions are worthless and never accomplish anything. Might as well get one together with toilet paper and pass it around a back-ally for all the good it will do. Companies don't give a crap about things like this. Just complaining about it constantly online and at Capcom directly will change their minds more than a change.org petition.

Capcom to consoles: here's a great next-gen MH just for you!

Capcom to MH/Switch fans: you can import an untranslated 3DS port, but that's it. Oh and thanks for all your support over the last 6 years btw, you made all this possible!

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

@alexander_mark: What would you think if I told you many people who have a 3DS, also have one of the three platforms for World.

Avatar image for Ohaidere

@RSM-HQ: what if I told you main home console games usually rely more on flash than depth?

Definitely skeptical on Worlds.

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

@Ohaidere: Like Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, Devil May Cry, fighting games, and any Platinum game ever.

Seems to me you're very narrow minded. Did you know Monster Hunter started on a "home console"_

Avatar image for Ohaidere

@RSM-HQ: I said "usually" not always. I love Dark Souls and thought Ninja Gaiden was fantastic on Xbox. Haven't played Nioh yet, but I plan to.

But let's not pretend like those games are the majority, and it's been 2 generations since MH appeared on a home console. The trend in home console games has been towards the shallow, and that's partially why the games you mention stand out. Witcher 3 is considered groundbreaking, yet the gameplay is pond deep (like that game as well, but I'm honest about it).

So yeah, I'm skeptical when Capcom announces a new spinoff on a franchise for the mainstream and chooses not to localize a core game.

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

@Ohaidere: I could name quite a few more games if you like?

Like with any platform you have a range to cater to many kinds of people, that have different taste. Assuming console players like stupid shiny garbage is throwing everyone on the same boat and I'm not for that. I have a console, a P.C. and a handheld.

I don't like it when any platform is thrown as a stereotype, and I've heared it all.

And as for The Witcher 3. I'm not a fan myself though I would say the games main issue is input lag. It's a problem on all platforms and yeah the combat never felt special. However I accept what it does right and who it is for. It didn't bother me either because I was playing games that fit my taste.

Play The Witcher on Death March.

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

@obsidian_born: Play The Evil Within on Akumu_

Avatar image for Ohaidere

@obsidian_born: I did. Generally I only play games on the hardest settings. Don't get me wrong, I like a 3 Witcher games quite a but, but the gameplay on 3 just isn't particularly deep.

Like, I felt ffxv's gameplay and systems are more complex than Witcher 3. Witcher's narrative is light-years ahead, but again, gameplay just wasn't really anything groundbreaking.

@alexander_mark: Now you know what it's like to be a Playstation owner. This series wouldn't even exist if we didn't support this game when it was first released on PS2, then Capcom goes and pulls the plug and only releases on Nintendo platforms.

Also, I grew up on the 'Xeno' games. I played Xenogears for PS1 and the whole Xenosaga trilogy for PS2. Then Namco goes and gives Nintendo full exclusivity rights to a game franchise that Playstation owners made possible in the first place.

It sucks, but that's business for you. These companies are so quick to sell out for money, Capcom saw how well other consoles are selling as apposed to Nintendo consoles and made their decision. Simple as that.

Avatar image for alexander_mark

@hobobo: I know, I agree. I was salty when the PSP lost it to the 3DS, and I'm salty again now. Look, I hope MH World is good, but this is a bad way to treat long-time fans.

It's Capcom after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Avatar image for Runeweaver

It was never gonna release in the west at the same time as Japan, Likely be 6 months to a year after for the west, which isn't great but it will happen, only reason it not happening is if the Switch sales slow down too much, which doesn't seem to be happening its still outselling all the other systems when there's stock, Its possible that's what Capcom are watching, The Switch will succeed in Japan due to handhelds being their main gaming platform, the west its not such a sure thing.

Avatar image for janejp

So pass it . I'll go for Monster Hunter World on PS4.

Don't care PS2-graphic MH game any more.

Avatar image for FLEEBS

Well, this sucks.

Avatar image for atopp399

They will. A game like that would sell really well.

Avatar image for professor_megaman

Since American companies are anti-Nintendo pricks, and Japanese companies won't import, American Switch owners are going to get squeezed on both fronts.

Time to brush up on Rosetta Stone Japanese.

Avatar image for d_

Thats cool, I’ll just have to find something else to waste my money on. I can get a mighty fine t-shirt for $60

Avatar image for lebanese_boy

Gamespot, are you guys full of crap?

Avatar image for justinhaywald

@lebanese_boy: Nope. In response to a clear question about bringing XX/Generations to America representative for the game said, very clearly. "No."

Avatar image for uchihasilver

seems gamespot got rekt by the monster hunter devs xD either that or capcom are being smart and backpedalling after seeing the backlash from fans

Avatar image for justinhaywald

@uchihasilver: Probably a back pedal, or someone who spoke out of turn. In our interview audio, they clearly say, "No," and nothing else when asked. "Are there any plans to bring XX to Switch in America?"

Avatar image for uchihasilver

@justinhaywald: i thought as much good to know they are aware they messed up, in all honesty if they waited and announced MHXX after MHWorld and made clear it wont be localized people most likely would have no issue but because they didnt communicate the community has gone mad =/

Avatar image for Ohaidere

Pretty decent chance if they don't release this in the US I'm skipping worlds. Generally when companies try to make their games mainstream you get shiny, shallow garbage.

I loved playing RE6 with my brother, but I don't want to see Capcom give that treatment to MH.

Avatar image for benstrom16

fan translation incoming...

Avatar image for biggamerdude

Why not? If you can make a new Monster hunter for all consoles and pc why not localise this one? Are capcom just people who hate money?

Avatar image for ballashotcaller

they will likely develop a Switch exclusive Monster Hunter. they don't have much choice looking at how successful the Switch is going to be.

Avatar image for metbert

Wait, they said Switch version... So there is still hope for 3DS version... right?

Anyway after this Capcom lost my trust

... I can see that they want to focus on World... But at least finish your older work first.

I'm really disappointed honestly... MH is one of those games where I wanted a localisation so that people can explore the lore and enjoy MH not only for the gameplay (+ in my language the localisation was spectacular).

I hope they'll change idea...

Avatar image for tonkinese

@metbert: xx is generations with more content

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

@tonkinese: It's Generations with G-rank. That feature they forgot existed.

Avatar image for metbert

@tonkinese: I know ... and that's the problem, XX added new interesting stuff, hunter arts, new monsters and especially new areas with new lore.

We have already Generations so I don't see why they should not translate those new part of XX (they have a relatively small amount of sentences to translate.. The rest was already done).

I mean it's like if we got MH4 and not MH4U; Generations feels uncomplete now.. privated of things that could have make it a better game. I hope they'll localise the 3DS version at least.

Avatar image for GameboyTroy

They're funneling everything Monster Hunter related into MHW which also won't be on the Switch going forward.

Avatar image for GameboyTroy

@metalslimenite: It really seems that way when it comes to the MH series going forward. Its seems like MHXX will stay in Japan which is awful.

Avatar image for GameboyTroy

@metalslimenite: I think MH Stories might come to the west. For MH5 just read the article in the link.

Avatar image for Barighm

What? They don't think anything can do well in the west if it's not an open world title?

Avatar image for leeko_link

One of the most piece of shit thing this garbage company has ever announce. Glad I didn't buy into any of their games this gen.

Avatar image for demon-returns

It's the circle of life...

The sun Rises in the East, people pay taxes, people die, and Nintendo gets no 3rd party games.

Move on along..... nothing new to see or experience here folks
