Now Playing: Anthem Gameplay Reveal Trailer - E3 2017

Following its reveal during the EA Play press conference, EA gave the world its first look at BioWare's new IP, Anthem, during Microsoft's E3 press conference today. While the game was shown running on the new Xbox One X console, it wasn't clear what other platforms would host the title. EA has now cleared the air and confirmed that Anthem is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It launches sometime in Fall 2018.

Developed by BioWare Edmonton, the studio behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Anthem is a new sci-fi action game set in a "vast open world." The game pits players in the role of a Freelancer tasked with exploring unknown planets and protecting humanity. You'll be able to outfit your Freelancer with customizable exo-suits called Javelins, which can be equipped with a range of new gear you either craft or acquire.

The game is being "built around a live service" and features a heavy emphasis on cooperative play. EA has confirmed that up to four players can team up to complete missions together. During today's gameplay demonstration, we got our first look at one called "Hell or High Water," which took players through a dense jungle filled with giant creatures and through a bioluminescent underwater cavern.

Like a number of other of titles, the game will run in 4K and feature other enhancements when played on Xbox One X. You can watch the full gameplay demonstration from Microsoft's press conference here. You can also find more news from today's press conference in our roundup. HMMMMMMMMMMMM. So sounds kind of MMO-y like The Division or something.

I'd be a lot more excited ab out a new single player game, but still...

As I believe that EA is the most evil company there is and I promised not to buy any of their games again, espmafter the last 2 nfs and battlefront.I had enough enough of their always on crap, this looks amazing though. It's a glorified Titanfall, but still, looks promising. However I am sure that the gameplay will suck in sp and I will regret getting it.

I like how every first drop is a LEGENDARY drop. Are they hackers?

Avatar image for vickissv2

Why wasn't this just MEA in the first place?

Avatar image for Barighm

So...Mass Effect with power suits? Well, I'm a sucker for power suits, so I'm game.

Why did MS feel the need to announce this game during their presentation? Did they really feel like their overall roster was that weak?

Avatar image for AncientDozer

Same reason Sony decided to announce Destiny 2 stuff.

Backroom deals, bro. No doubt Microsoft will have it as a timed exclusive and possibly get bonus content. Probably earlier.

>PS4 and Xbox One

Witcher 3 downgrade incoming. RIP PC Masterrace

Avatar image for deactivated-5a3920d6b9003

The graphics are overwhelming, but the gameplay didnt look interesting at all. And I am quite sure these graphics did not represent the final product. All those E3 showings with spectacular graphics have all been downgraded in the last year. Dont forget!

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

So basically more modern version of Tribes 2? Looks too good to be true.

Avatar image for alexander_mark

Bracing myself for the downgrade.

Avatar image for zura_janai

how very original from bioware.

at least we won't get the weired faces like in andromeda.

Avatar image for nabinator

So wait, is this the true Destiny 2.0?

Avatar image for Mogan

@nabinator: No, it's just a Destiny-like.

Avatar image for Barighm

@Mogan: Which is just a Borderlands-like.

Avatar image for Mogan

@Barighm: Which is just first person Diablo.

Avatar image for nabinator

@Mogan: I like this trend

Glad Bioware is moving on to a new IP. That's what they do best, take risks and flesh out new ideas.

Avatar image for Barighm

@Richardthe3rd: Risky? It's just Mass Effect with power suits. Is it even an RPG? That's what Bioware does best.

Avatar image for SirNormanislost

@Richardthe3rd: new IPs are risky but all these ideas they've put together into a game don't sound that risky

Avatar image for hrv_25

If they don't fcuk up the graphics on release am willing to buy a new 4K TV and get another graphics card. So godddaammnnn gorgeous!

Avatar image for neoshadi

this is gonna be fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun looking forward to playing this with friends and flying into them with my exo suit :)

"BioWare". I'll wait until a couple months after release before giving it another look. I know, Andromeda was made by a different studio blah blah blah.

Avatar image for erickydullboy

A nice way to make people forget about Andromeda.

Avatar image for magnusopus

Definitely Single Playering this on the PS4 come Fall 2018....

Avatar image for garysan

@magnusopus: So this game does have a solo-able campaign? I heard it's suppose to be like Destiny but I've never played Destiny before. This game looks bloody amazing but I'm not a fan of MMOs.

Avatar image for magnusopus

@garysan: yeah i was worried at first, however somebody below posted this tweet: https://twitter.com/CGaspur/status/874050839014395904

I am not a fan of stuff like Destiny either. But that tweet does sound reassuring... hope it helps

Avatar image for Barighm

@magnusopus: That tweet in no way confirms the game has an offline singleplayer component. All that tweet does is confirm you can play the game alone if you wish.

Avatar image for magnusopus

@Barighm: Learn to READ - I never said offline.... If you gunna make a point - make sure you actually reference what I wrote, not what you think I wrote... I said singleplayering it - which also means solo...

Avatar image for Atzenkiller

@magnusopus: You can play through all the story in Destiny all by yourself. The only problem is that all missions are pretty much made so they're grindable and can be played with others. Aside from the fact that there isn't really any story to tell of.

Avatar image for magnusopus

@Atzenkiller: Yeah I get that, and I hope that Bioware got the mentals to actually allow for solo adventuring and just make adjustments if groups want to take the same objectives. I like the look of the game so far...

Avatar image for lolfooledyou

After Mass Effect Andromeda, you would have to be somehow seriously lacking in mental capacity to even think for a second this game won't be trash.

Avatar image for Mogan

@lolfooledyou: That's dumb. This game MIGHT be bad, or it might be great; but deciding after a single trailer is just being stupid for no reason.

Avatar image for neoshadi

@lolfooledyou: you clearly didn't see what everyone else say lol this looks extremely immersive just imagine flying around with your friends and missile bombarding each other :)

Avatar image for joupena

@lolfooledyou: Or, you could realize the fact that Andromeda was made by a completely different studio than this, comprised of mostly amateurs?

But regardless of that, this does not look like a BioWare game..

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@lolfooledyou: well the demo they showed seamed kinda cool but yeah......I find it harder and harder to trust Bioware anymore and honestly I get massive flashbacks to Destiny and The Division watching the demo vid.....

naww, when it cones to anything in gaming you kinda have to be skeptical of everything now....

Avatar image for Thretosix

@darthrevenx: Perhaps it's a plus then that it is not a sequel to Destiny or The Division. Perhaps this was the product of the mistakes of other games, made for people like you who didn't like their other games. Just saying, this is not out yet. Looks amazing on the surface. Probably the next best thing I'm looking forward to after Battlefront II.

Avatar image for rasterror

It looked glorious! They better not have fudged the graphics.

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

Multiplayer game? Yep, not interested in the slightest.

Avatar image for mjonk2pc

@Thanatos2k: a good single player mode would be cool but hopefully there is no competitive multi player, that seems to be what ruins co-op games. Nerfing all the good PvE weapons because PvP players whine.

Avatar image for suncato

@Thanatos2k: Haha you sheeps never fail to amaze :D

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

@suncato: ???

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@suncato: wait, someone not wanting to follow the flock and they're the sheep???? I think you need to visit Wikipedia and look up the definition of sheep.....

Avatar image for Mogan

@darthrevenx: On this site, the flock are the haters passing judgement on games they've only seen one trailer for. : \

Avatar image for E_J_S

@Thanatos2k: https://twitter.com/CGaspur/status/874050839014395904

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

@E_J_S: There's a list of titles a mile long that were designed for co-op gameplay that promised a single player mode that didn't suck - and they all sucked.

Additionally, Bioware's words are worth less than most at this point. I don't have to link the litany of lies they've spewed over the last 5 years, do I?

Avatar image for cboye18

@E_J_S: Thing is, when a game tries to give you both a single player experience while also trying to be multiplayer-oriented at the same time (e.x Destiny, The Division, For Honor, The Crew etc), it will most likely suffer the "jack of all trades, master of none" syndrome.

And it's almost guaranteed that the single-player portion of the game will suffer the most.

Avatar image for musalala

@cboye18: This dude knows was up, I played both the divison and destiny and the single player aspect was straight garbage and both games are more enjoyable with other players.
