E3 2015 Attendance Rises, as Plans for 2016's Show Announced

Even Kanye West showed up.

As E3 2015 draws to a close, The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which organizes the event, announced on Thursday that the show drew more than 52,200 total attendees. This includes developers, analysts, journalists, and enthusiasts from 109 countries around the world. Even Kanye West showed up.

No Caption Provided

This is up from 48,900 people from 100 countries last year. This year, there were more than 1,600 products from 300 exhibitors on display.

The ESA also announced today that next year's event, E3 2016, will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center, June 14-16.

"More than any other E3, this year was about the gamer," ESA president Michael Gallagher said in a statement. "E3 demonstrated both the remarkable transformation of entertainment taking place on all video game platforms--virtual reality, augmented reality, hardware, mobile, and handheld--and awesome games."

The ESA also said E3 2015 broke social media records with more than 6.3 million posts on Twitter and 7.5 million "likes" for E3-related posts on Instagram so far in June. On Twitch, more than 500,000 people watched E3 press conferences concurrently, while more than 1 million E3-related videos were published to YouTube, the ESA said.

Also this week at E3, the game RumbleTV was named winner of the 2015 E3 College Game Competition.

Ahh I hate to see e3 go. I'm not a morning person at all but I will get up to see an e3 conference. E3 is like Christmas you look forward to the day and the games are the presents under the tree. And like Christmas you don't want it to end but all good things must come to an end till next year

Yeah, Kanye West was probably the low point of it all. Why was he even in there? He isn't a developer or Game journalist, and this event isn't public.

BAD idea.... LA convention center has gotten too expensive. They need to keep the format of the show but move somewhere more suitable. Maybe Vegas?

@Relvar: they have contract until 2017 I believe. Vegas would make sense, but the earliest we see e3 in vegas would be 2018, that might be the time we see the next xbox and ps

@Thanatos2k: stop trolling.

Both Nintendo and Microsoft have huge booths at west hall and will continue to have them every year.

@Thanatos2k: That didnt mean they pulled out look up the stories they said they had to much to show so they waited to show crackdown, scalebound and quatumn break till gamescom because they dont release till next year. They still had a full show they still had a huge booth and had huge hololens tech demo experiences on the show floor. They also conducted their own show from the floor. Nintendo meanwhile also hada its own show however the past few years they have opted to just make a live stream rather then actual conference. They are still there. Microsoft didnt pull out they simply focused their show one what was releasing this year or early next year while gamescom they have more.

@noah364: If you are known to have big money they will let you in anywhere!

We all know that, they want to develop customer relations with your wallet!

@noah364: It is said that he's making a game of his own and his wife Kim already has her own game as well so he's legit to be at E3.

@davillain-: That counts??? What's next, letting pro athletes in because they appeared on the cover of a sports game?

Actually, that seems pretty likely...

@noah364: It's probably MORE likely they would let sports stars in, as a benefit for supporting the pharmaceuticals industry, if recent BBC news articles are to be believed! :-(

I think it's great to see a massive turnout for an agent in this industry that is more and more evolving into what is now the age of true technology. And all of the reviews of everything has been impressive. However. I have to criticize the fact Kanye west is even mentioned. Why did he get to attend? E3 clearly states that you need to be in the industry in someway to attend. He is a member of the public like everyone else when it comes to this. He has no right to get special treatment. Once again showing that this day and age can be bought for money. People like me will never get to attend and it's a massive kick in the teeth. Poor show...

@jjarvis: you didn't have to be in the industry to attend this year. They had general admission tickets for $1400. I live in LA and almost went but I had planned my vacation already at the same time. I'll probably go next year.

@jjarvis: Someday you might, there's always been talk of letting the public in. I read that this E3 actually had 4000-5000 general public invitees. They gave exhibitors and organizations (like Gamespot) invites for contests or whatever. 5000 is quite a lot. That might even be how Kanye or other celebs get in, maybe they are given their invites that way.

For this article, putting him in the subheading might have been kind of a joke.

Please bring back the tours of the showroom floor. Those were awesome. I did not care for this years platform from GameSpot.

I'd love to actually go to an E3 or San Diego Comic-Con. The article asked about your highlight of E3. Mine was the announcement of backwards compatibility on Xbox One. My jaw hit the floor.

The only game Kanye has played is probably Def Jam, and he doesn't smile because he wasn't in it.

@Marky360: E3 doesn't officially start until after the conferences which usually the next day. Only SE conference occurred during the event this year.
