I fail to see how anyone could have possibly watched Nintendo's 45-minute Digital Event presentation this morning and not come away thinking that they're going to have to pick up a Wii U at some point. What a show! New footage for The Legend of Zelda on Wii U pretty much stole the whole of E3 2014 for me, and I absolutely can't wait to get another glimpse at its tantalisingly beautiful word. There's plenty of other announcements from Nintendo, though, so here's a recap:

As of late, I'm pretty casual when it comes to gaming on consoles. I bought a Wii U last winter to play all the games that i've missed on the Wii and even games I never played on the gamecube (WW HD). Even with the select few Wii U games that are out today, I thoroughly enjoy my purchase.

With this new, impressive and informative Nintendo event, I have all the more reason to be excited about the future of Nintendo and the games I will be able to play with the WiiU.

Like many others, I enjoy the traditional games and expect to play them in their new glory! Can't wait for the new Smash Bros. The new legend of Zelda is supposedly going to be open-world (Elder-Scrolls level) but with the main elements that characterize the Zelda franchise in all its greatness. Can't wait for that either. And then, Mario Maker. Who the hell WON'T enjoy this? These kinds of games are only limited by our imagination (and of course the framework of the game itself, i.e., it's a mario platformer).

The new Kirby game also looks like a fun ride. Literally, haha. Haven't played a Kirby game since my gameboy color, and this Kirby, from the limited play, seems like a great addition.

Among other things, I've gotta say Splatoon has caught my attention. Can't wait to hear more about that as well.

Basically, 9/10. 45 minutes worth your time!

This was a pretty sad conference, not that Sony or MS were particularly good. But once again, all I am seeing is Nintendo trot out their own first party games. The only new exclusive from a 3rd party is from the guys who made the flop Ninja Gaiden 3 and Yaiba, and people also have to realize its not that Nintendo stole Bayonetta, its that despite critical acclaim the game sold so poorly that neither Sony or MS cared to invest in the sequel.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is probably the only reason I might buy this console, but maybe 3 or 4 years from now.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nintendo doesn't need 3rd party games, they can surivive basically forever off their 1st party games. Only reason WiiIU is selling poorly is they didn't reliease them. With Zelda, mario kart, smash bro WiiU will fly off the shelves.

All I can say is that Nintendo's console production division is doomed. Sure, they make great games and plenty of them. But, what is the one thing people always point to as Nintendo's eventual downfall? Third party support. Today we found out that Nintendo essentially has none when it needed to be pushing as hard as it could to ramp it up. I count TWO games total. One we already knew all about (Bayonetta 2) and another we knew about, but was just now officially announced. This is down right pitiful. Nintendo will not make another console. They will likely continue to dominate handhelds, but the Wii U is their last console.

While 3rd party support is necessary, take a gander at the best selling games of all time and the highest selling games of any Nintendo platform, it's ALWAYS 1st party games so if any developer could survive with highly limited 3rd party support, it's Nintendo. Profit margins for 1st party titles is much higher than 3rd party games plus Nintendo does profit from every Wii U and 3DS sold so they'll still be fine regardless of how much 3rd party support they get (they still get a great deal of Indie support and decent Japanese support). Sonic Boom is also a 3rd party title, just saying.

Nintendo's still in the game. Their Press Conference was worth the wait and worth watching. Super Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Party 10, Star Fox and more could make anybody lose their minds. Can't wait for what next.

<< LINK REMOVED >> ...how awesome this was! Anyone still disappointed by Wii U and Nintendo didn't watch the Digital Event. That, or they're just so dead set on being right about their downfall that they can't get excited by good things from Nintendo in spite of it.
