Universal Interactive has released new screenshots of The Fellowship of the Ring for the Xbox. An action adventure game, The Fellowship of the Ring will follow three of the characters from the J.R.R. Tolkien novel of the same name including Gandalf, Frodo, and Aragorn. All three playable characters have different abilities, and in addition to battling enemies, players will be able to set traps, pick locks, and use magic. The game will include 28 types of enemies, as well as a number of boss characters. The ring will also factor into the game, as players can use it perform certain actions. The Xbox version of the game will include several graphical enhancements such as volumetric fogging, specular highlighting, dynamic shadows, and environmental mapping.

Fellowship of the Ring for the Xbox is currently scheduled for release in Q4 2002. Look for our hands-on report of the game from the E3 show floor later in the week.
