Electronic Arts has released new shots of the PlayStation 2 version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, the spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit for the original PlayStation console. As in the first game, players must avoid being caught by the police as they race through the game's 20 courses. They'll then be able to play as the police in its "be the cop" mode.

The PlayStation 2 version of the game is being developed by Black Box (the company responsible for NASCAR 2001 and NHL Hitz), while EA Seattle is handling the Xbox, PC, and GameCube editions. Hot Pursuit 2 will be released for all of these platforms toward the end of this summer. We'll have more on the game later during the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
