E3 2002: Doom III in 2003

Id Software has been working on its next major game, Doom III, for two years in near secrecy. Although the game was only briefly demoed twice last year, many fans of id's games hoped that E3 would reveal the game to be surprisingly complete and on schedule to ship at the end of the year. However, Doom III banners hanging in the entrance hall to the LA Convention Center are clearly printed with "Coming 2003." Including expansions, id has released a game during the holiday season almost every year since 1997, and we'll find out when E3 starts on Wednesday if id has another product up its sleeve.
