LOS ANGELES--Vivendi has announced that The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, which launches in October 2006, will feature the voices of Elijah Wood, David Spade, and Gary Oldman. The game is planned for release on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS and will offer a mix of dynamic action and fast-paced combat.

The game looks set to be a darker take on the 17 million-unit-selling Spyro franchise, with the story delving into the origin of the dragon. Elijah Wood will voice Spyro, David Spade will be featured as sidekick Sparx the dragonfly, and Gary Oldman will be Spyro's mentor.

Krome Studios is handling the console and Game Boy Advance versions, while Amaze Entertainment is on Nintendo DS duties.
