Dying Light Getting Enhanced Edition; Upgrades Free for Existing Players

Improved graphics and AI, a new difficulty mode, and more.

Techland today announced plans to release an improved version of Dying Light next year in the form of an Enhanced Edition, though it'll also be offering these improvements for free to those with the existing game.

Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition consists of an "enhanced" version of the base game, the new expansion pack The Following, and every DLC and content update released to date. That includes the Bozak Horde and Be the Zombie modes, as well as the Cuisine & Cargo challenge missions and Ultimate Survivor Bundle.

In terms of enhancements, the trailer above briefly highlights some of them--better graphics and enemy AI, new parkour moves, and so on. Many of them are vague-sounding, like "audio upgrades" and "gameplay quality improvements," and as such it remains unclear how meaningful the changes will be. But Techland is playing up the fact that this isn't "another Game of the Year Edition," so it's clearly trying to set expectations high.

"We didn't want to follow a beaten track and just re-release our game in a new wrapping with the current DLC added on," lead game designer Maciej Binkowski said in a statement. "That's why for the last half year we've been working on a ton of enhancements that we're now going to make available to everyone. We're adding bonus post-game content, a Nightmare difficulty level, nearly 100 new animations, new NPC models, advanced AI behaviors, and more. One year after the original release, Dying Light will be even bigger."

Enhanced Edition will be released digitally and at retail on February 6, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $60. The Following will also be released on the same day as a standalone download for those that have the original version. Those players will also receive all of the aforementioned enhancements free of charge.

Well this is totally unnecessary, both graphics and AI were fine. I'll take it though. Maybe it will get me to do a third playthrough. Could you though add in an alternate way to get the bow, or make the bow less shitty, to apologize for what a bullshit waste of time and money Bozak Horde was?

Still $60? No price drop for a year old game? Shadow of Morder had a price drop.

@advocacy: It is getting a price drop. It will be a year old at the end of January. When the Enhanced Edition comes out in February it will include the game and season pass and be priced at $60. While they don't mention a price drop for the basic game. I doubt very much they will still sell the old base game only at $60

All these gaming companies around the world and only two Polish studios get it (Techland and CDPR) keep EA and others out of Poland.

I dont buy day 1 enhanced versions. Gonna hold out for the super enhanced limited collectors box set that comes with a coupon for a free pizza.

It is becoming a decent growing trend. I don't own this game or have any interest to but it's good to see devs standing behind their product all the same.

the only way I'm gonna buy this game is if they make third person Mode for this game it would have looked way better in TPS while he jumps and runs on rooftops and buildings and stuff

@gorillazzero: Thats like saying you won't buy mirrors edge or call of duty unless they create a 3rd person mode. The game is first person. It is what it is....

So it´s 60 dollars if you don´t own the game.

But if you do own the game it is free?

So who is going to buy the 60 dollars edition instead of buying the 15 dollar "old" version and getting the free updates?

@Gbullet: The following and dlc is not free for anyone, I think they just mean the enhancements will be a free patch (like better graphics, audio, parkour etc.)

Great Co-op game, me and a friend had a lot of fun with it. Never finished though, got to pick up where we left off when this comes out. The new map looks really fun.

@Fine_TableLamp: The enhanced stuff just applies to gameplay improvements. If you own the base game, you still have to pay for the DLC content like The Following and the Bozak Horde. The $60 complete edition will have the gameplay enhancements and the DLC content.

I stopped playing this game a long time ago, I rather they just make a new much improved game if it has to be about zombies do a better story and well everything else. This felt more like batman how you zip around. Plus it wasn't scary at all was a mindless shooter/slasher.

I haven't played this game yet but I really want to. Currently still playing Fallout 4. I can't see though how much they can improve graphics on the PS4 as an i.e. without making compromises.

You know, Techland has been climbing up for a while now on my Game Devs I Like list. From supporting the game overall (from mod tools on PC, to making actual expansions and then giving away enhancements for free now), to that little shot they fired at Red Bull with the whole drinking a glass of water thing...Keep up the good work, Techland, you are on the right track :D

@nazgarmar: couldn't agree more, so nice to see companies do this kind of thing. Played the hell out of this game at a friends house but with this rerelease I'll have zero problem buying my own copy for PC.

People you dont get expansion for free only the so called enhancements if you own base game. The only way the following is included is if you have season pass. Otherwise you have to buy it. Go to dying light site and look:

See, Undead Labs? This is how you release an enhanced edition...don't try and sell the entire goddamn game again to people that already own it, but rather give the updated enhanced features to them for free as a thank you for buying your game early on and not letting it flop.

@nadsat-77: no still have to pay for expansion, not if you have season pass then its included. Season pass cost 20 until december 8 after that it go up to around 30. You get the "enhancements" for free if you own the base game (new difficulty, models, animation etc as mentioned in article).

@hughesyboozy: I read the first part of the first paragraph, then continued on down and skimmed the rest.

So, yes and no; I read, but I didn't read the 'free' part. Thanks for informing me it's actually free to prior customers; less scummy than I thought.

Still, re-releasing 'enhanced' versions of games is becoming the norm for trying to score more income, since it acts like a brand new release for the same game all over again.

Could be worse.. could be DkS2: SotFS.

People cant read huh! The game comes with the quasi sequel the following which is bigger than the base game. So basically if you dont have the game, you get an enhanced version of the base game, all dlc plus the following which I think is a damn good deal.

Thats great for those who didn't play it, but this game doesn't have reply value for me so it sucks for me that they're not shifting focus to the next Dying Light game, I liked the first one a lot.
