Dying Light Dev Making New IP and Possibly Dying Light 2 - Report

First Dying Light has reached 8 million unique players, Techland CEO also reveals.

Polish developer Techland, the creator of the Dead Island and Dying Light franchises, is working on at least two new games. Now, CEO Paweł Marchewka has shed some further light on these projects.

He told Eurogamer that one of the games is a new IP that will developed at the studio's Warsaw office. It is described as an open-world fantasy game that has RPG elements "maybe in a slightly bigger sense than Dying Light," Marchewka said. Though it will have some RPG elements, it is not to be thought of as a true RPG. Additionally, the game will offer co-op multiplayer and a single-player, he said.

This game is not a repurposed version of Hellraid, which was put on hold last year, Marchewka said. However, it is likely the new IP will share some of the same technical elements of Hellraid, he explained.

As for Techland's other game, which is being made at the company's Wrocław office, Marchewka was much more tight-lipped about this project. However, it's suggested that this is Dying Light 2. The first game was made at Techland's Wrocław office, and Eurogamer reports that Marchewka mentioned "Dying Light 2" in an answer to a separate question about the Dead Island franchise.

Dying Light has reached around 8 million unique players, the executive said, adding that the zombie game has been pirated around 3 million times. Officially, the game sold 5 million copies in its first six months.

Pressed to say if the game in development at Techland's Wrocław office was in fact Dying Light 2, Marchewka said, "Can't say that," and smiled, according to Eurogamer.

In August 2015, Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala teased that Techland had "lots of very ambitious ideas" for a sequel.

As for release timing, Marchewka said he expects both the new IP and the other game to be out "within three years."

Finally, Marchewka provided status updates on Hellraid and Call of Juarez, saying Techland is currently weighing its options for what to do with these franchises going forward, but nothing has been decided.

The next mainline Dead Island game is Dead Island 2, which is in development at Sumo Digital after Spec Ops: The Line dropped out. The Dead Island Definitive Collection, which contains remastered versions of Dead Island and Dead Island 2, comes out on May 31 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Dying light 2 should be a no brainer and I actually enjoyed that game and didn't care for dead island.

Honestly with these types of companies who continuously develop a certain genre in both game type (platform, FPS, open-world) and/or visually (family, horror, drama). Can a company, Techland, who is mostly known for their FPS games really become more than that? Or are they forever stuck in limbo, constantly making the same type of game over and over only, slapping a new name on it and calling it a original IP?

EDIT: I apologize. It appears they do racing games too.

i'd like to see how much better Dead Island 2 turns out. after Dying Light hopefully they've seen how DI2 could be done better. would love to see what Dying Light 2 may have in store for us.

"The Dead Island Definitive Collection, which contains remastered versions of Dead Island and Dead Island 2, comes out on May 31". this is stating that remastered versions of Dead Island & Dead Island 2 are included in the Definitive edition. how can there be a remastered version of a game(Dead Island 2) that isn't even released yet?

have the developers really started remastering games they haven't even released yet along with ones only a few years old?

@elessarGObonzo: Dead Island/Dead Island: Riptide=Dead Island Definitive Collection. Riptide itself isn't Dead Island 2 back then, it was a full blown expansion pack to say the least but it wasn't the true Dead Island 2 game though.

Apparently though, everyone just thinks Riptide is Dead Island 2 despite being it's the second game but not truly Dead Island 2.

@davillain-: well, that just makes Gamespot look even worse. if in an article about the upcoming Dead Island 2 they still mistake Riptide for DI2 they definitely need some new writers/editors.

@elessarGObonzo: Either you read it wrong or it was advertised wrongly. I believe it is supposed to say Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. I didn't click on the link but I remember hearing about a Definitive Collection being remasters of said games.

@Super_Tramp: you can read the copy/pasted quote directly from the article in my post, no links or outside sources. of course it's just another case of Gamespot's lack of decent editing.

@elessarGObonzo: Okay. I believe you. My point is that the DI and DI:Riptide are the ones being remastered, not DI2. Just in case you thought maybe you could get DI and DI 2 on the 31st. DI 2 is in development hell right now.

Edit Note: it's coming to PC too. Steam is even selling the "Dead Island Definitive Collection" BUNDLE for $4.44 if you already own the original DI & Riptide as part of the "Loyalty Program" ;-) http://store.steampowered.com/app/383150/

@Marky360: Hey Marky Mark. Try Google if you are ignorant. It would have cleared up your hostility a bit and saved you some worthless nonsensical typing.

"As for Techland's other game, which is being made at the company's Wrocław office" is a correct statement. Put down the crack pipe.

There's really no typos in this text, at least I don't see any. Wrocław is the main city for Techland, in which they might be making Dying Light 2 (or some other game), while in Warsaw (other city) they are developing new ip.

Best regards from Wrocław.

@qwert0:

What the **** do you mean two separate cities they make it seem like it the same city but the change the spelling of it each time it's fucking retarded and then they say that Specs Ops:The Line dropped out of development of Dead Island 2 like the game was developing it. This shit is borderline retarded I can't believe you are defending GameSpot for this retarded crAp.

Why are they working on a new IP when they have their other one sitting on hold. It seems like they should finish the project they have before jumping into another one.

@phoenix1289:

Maybe something is wrong with it or they ran out of ideas for that one.
