Dwayne Johnson Will Play Superman's Dog In Upcoming Animated Movie
DC League of Super-Pets will be in theaters May 20, 2022.
Actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will join the voice cast of the upcoming animated movie DC League of Super-Pets, as Krypto the Super-Dog. According to Variety, Johnson's character will be a major focus of the film, which is due in theaters on May 20, 2022.
Plot details are still light, but the basic premise involves Superman going out of town, and it's up to his pet dog and "a flying cat to stop crime while the Man of Steel is on vacation." Johnson will produce the film, along with Patricia Hicks and Jared Stern. John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and Nicholas Stoller are executive producing. None of Johnson's co-stars in the film are yet cast. Stern (The Internship) will write and direct the film, with Sam Levine (Wreck-It Ralph) co-directing.
This is far from the only big-name project on the horizon from Johnson. Also set in the DC universe, there's Black Adam, which is due out July 29, 2022. The exciting DC movie reportedly began filming in April, and its impressive cast also includes Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. The Old Guard's Marwan Kenzari was also cast in a mystery role.
More immediately, Disney's Jungle Cruise movie, based on the popular theme park attraction, will be released in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 30. It's the end of an incredibly prolonged wait for fans--after a few delays due to the pandemic, this film will finally come out after first being announced and starting development way back in 2004.
Elsewhere in the DC Universe, it was recently announced that an animated Injustice movie is also in the works.
