Dunkirk Trailer: First Look at The Dark Knight Director's World War II Movie

Dunkirk looks intense.

After releasing a new poster earlier this week, Warner Bros. has now published the first trailer for The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan's World War II movie, Dunkirk.

The intense trailer shows a series of battle sequences on the ground and in the air. It covers the bleak situation that the Allied soldiers found themselves in, stranded on the Dunkirk beaches, pinned down by German forces. As discussed in the trailer, there are 400,000 Allied troops trapped on the beaches.

You might be seeing more of Dunkirk soon, as a seven-minute prologue for the movie will run before Star Wars: Rogue One on IMAX screens this weekend when that movie opens.

Dunkirk, which was written and directed by Nolan, stars Tom Hardy (The Revenant), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Kenneth Branagh (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and Harry Styles of the boy band One Direction. It opens on July 21, 2017.
