Dune HBO Max Spin-off Show Adds Bly Manor And Contagion Writers As Showrunners

The Dune spin-off show has found its new showrunners. According to Variety, The Haunting of Bly Manor writer and producer Diane Ademu-John has joined the HBO Max series, which is titled Dune: The Sisterhood. She'll be joined by Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns.

The show was first announced in June 2019, with Jon Spaihts, who has co-written by the upcoming Dune movie, attached as showrunner. However, he exited the project in September that year. Ademu-John is also known as a writer and producer on series such as Empire, Project: Phoenix, Body of Proof, The Vampire Diaries, and Medium. Burns also wrote movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and The Informant.

Dune: The Sisterhood will focus on the Bene Gesserit, a mysterious order of women with incredible powers that feature across Frank Herbert's Dune book series. The movie's director, Denis Villeneuve, will direct the opening episode and executive produce the entire run. The series doesn't have a release date yet.

In a 2019 statement, Villeneuve said: "The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series."

Dune hits theaters and HBO Max on October 22. It stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, and Josh Brolin. Check out the most recent trailer, and two sets of character posters.
