Westwood is breathing new life into its classic real-time strategy title Dune II and plans to release an update to the still-popular title this spring.

The new title - to be called Dune 2000 - will be released by Westwood this Spring. Westwood released just two screenshots of 2000 on Thursday. Westwood says the new title will come with multiplayer support (Internet and LAN play will now be an option), new video mission briefings, a C&C-style interface, and SVGA graphics.

Brett W. Sperry, Westwood Studios' president, said in a statement, "We decided to update the classic and give Dune fans, for the first time ever, the experience of playing head-to-head."

Familiar Dune II units including Deviators, sonic tanks, ornithopters, Freman warriors, the Emperor's elite troops, and the Sardaukar will return in the updated Dune 2000.
