Dune: Part II releases in theaters March 1, but how much money is the star-studded sci-fi film expected to make for its first weekend?

The film is projected to make between $60 million and $80 million in the US alone for its first weekend, according to Variety. If it can reach those heights, it would be the first movie to crack $50 million over its first weekend since Five Nights at Freddy's in October 2023.

For comparison, 2021's Dune earned $41 million in the US for its opening weekend, going on to bank $400 million over the course of its theatrical run worldwide. That movie was released simultaneously in theaters and on Max (then known as HBO Max) due to the pandemic.

Dune: Part II stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken, Stellan Skarsgard, Lea Seydoux, and Charlotte Rampling. Denis Villenueve returns to direct.

Dune: Part II was originally teed up to release in November 2023, but Warner Bros. opted to delay the film to March in part to help the film potentially do better in 2024. When the strikes were going on, actors were blocked from doing promotion, and with a film featuring as many big stars as Dune: Part II, that was enough to prompt the studio to delay.

In other box office news, Sony's Madame Web hit theaters on Valentine's Day and made half as much money as the new Bob Marley movie for its opening weekend.
