Ubisoft has today announced that it will release The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee for the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox in October. The TV show-inspired title, which is currently in development at Australia-based Ratbag, is described a humorous action racing game that will combine a mission-based adventure with arena-style driving.

"Based on the success of the first two Dukes of Hazzard games, we are working with a great property that has stood the test of time," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft Entertainment. "This game will appeal to a wide audience of both fans of the show and racing game enthusiasts."

The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee will see players assuming the roles of Bo and Luke Duke as they race to win prize money so that they can save the local orphanage from Boss Hogg's latest crooked scheme. All of the central characters in the game will be voiced by the cast of the original show, and in addition to the General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, players will be able to take the controls of the Black Charger, Uncle Jesse's pickup truck, Daisy's roadrunner, Cooter's tow truck, Rosco and Enos' police cruisers, and Boss Hogg's limousine.

Gameplay options in The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee will include a single-player adventure mode, spanning more than 18 missions, cooperative play, head-to-head competitions, and destruction derby battles. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
