DS Lite production up
Nintendo pushes out more than 800,000 handhelds in April, 100,000 ahead of expectations; supplies remain tight.
Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Nintendo has ramped up production of its hot handheld, the DS Lite. The company shipped more than 800,000 units to a Japanese retailer in April, beating forecasts by 100,000 units. Nonetheless, supplies remain tight: Major retailers like Amazon.co.jp are out of stock, and gamers are turning to auction sites where they pay well over Nintendo's sticker price to take home one of the scarce handhelds.
