Driveclub Gets Huge Free Update, Adding 15 Tracks and More

"Farewell."

Sony's PlayStation 4 racing game Driveclub was updated this week for possibly the last time--and it's going out with a bang. TeamVVV reports that the big free update, which comes in at 5.75 GB, adds 15 tracks that made their debut with DriveClub VR, as well as reverse variants of some existing tracks.

The patch notes also includes a note from the developer, which states, "Thanks for your support. Thanks for your commitment. Farewell."

No Caption Provided

If this is indeed the final update for Driveclub, that might mean that there won't be a PS4 Pro patch update, though this is not confirmed.

Go to TeamVVV to get all the details on Driveclub's new update.

The "majority" of the work on Driveclub VR was done by Evolution Studios, which Sony closed back in March. Sony's WWS Immersive Technology Group, which included some Evolution "veterans," finished the game, which came out on October 13 as a launch title for PlayStation VR.

Should I pick this up? It's $7.49 on the PS Store which I think is a steal. If I do grab it, I'd also get the Thrustmaster T300RS racing wheel to play it with. Anyone have any experience with this combo?

I just want to thank Driveclub. I bought Driveclub for 20 dollars after the really bad reviews knowing it just needed some time. This game is the most fun online racer I have ever played including Forza Horizon 3. Its the only racing game you can jump on and be in a game in less then 1 minute. Its really awesome. They gave us tons of free tracks and cars since it was released to make up for the bad launch. I love you driveclub makers. You guys started the weather system as well. U guys deserve so much more credit then you were given. Thank you

Driveclub lacking car customization killed it for me. Beautiful graphics and great driving mechanics, but car customization is a must. That made me sell my game in the vanilla stages along with online being broken completely for the 1st month lol.

@sonypony4eva: though it had nice Liveries and that was enough Customisation for me. Not everything is about Modding a car for faster speed. These are stock cars like real normal racing.

@sellingthings: You not been paying attention all these years. Doesn't matter if it's Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, EA, etc. If a game isn't doing well and isn't making MONEY $$$, they will close the studio. Sony isn't unique in doing this and the sky ain't falling "chicken little".... O_o

@no_one: They did fix it up a fair bit but it was mostly visuals was all people spoke about. That would be fine if it was an art competition and they weren't trying to sell game copies for profit :)

@no_one: my problem with the game is that it was way to hard, lol. I loved that I was able to use the D-pad for steering, something you never see in racing games anymore

@Spiritbomb2012: Haters just don't know cause they haven't tried or just aren't into racing games. Driveclub, A steering wheel, pedals and a decent size tv with a race chair is pure heaven for a racer.

Maybe I'll grab a copy around Black Friday, it'll be probably be $14.99 or so.

I wanted to get the game at launch, but all the network issues and lack of Steering Wheel support at the time was a deal breaker.

so what was Drive Club all about? I never bought it because I heard all this talk about the online component but is there a single player mode ? traditional mp racing? do we have to be in a racing MMO style world?

@soul_starter: yes, there is indeed a single player mode with online tracking so you can compare times and stats with your friends. everything is well integrated and the game still holds up as the most beautiful looking racing game out there, with truly impressive weather effects. the driving feels a bit weird at first and could have used additional tuning in some respects, but so long as you don't compare it to a true driving simulator like gran turismo, you'll have a good time with it... at least i did.

@soul_starter:

I never played it either, but from what I've read and seen, it was more of an Arcade style street racer. No official tracks or course, just closed-off roads courses, much like Gran Turismo in that sense.

There was also no tuning from what I recall, so more of a Spec Racer.

@beantownsean: there is at least 5 or more race tracks not on normal roads. There is tons of tracks that all look good with nice scenery, and the Multiplayer is good, there is also way to race your friends online. The offline singleplayer tours are good scenarios and so are the options on custom races even a random race feature that randomly chooses every aspect to race if you want to quickly drop in. The leaderboards are good with times for weather and tracks and for the cars which are split between weekly daily all time and friends/club members. The club aspect is good for more liveries to unlock and to race. The customisation isnt lacking but not alot either. There is liveries (loads of them free or season pass) and then each livery is custmisable with colours, anf then you get stock colours and adding Accolades and Club logo on the cars aswell. There is Manufacturer, club, personal, accolade and car levels to level up and unlock a load of stuff. All cars are free except 4 and the Bikes dlc (cheaper for SP owners) adds bikes and other stuff like tracks and character customisation. The controls for bikes are good aswell. For a cheap price of AU$45 dollars for everything minus the last few dlc vehicles/tours and liverys its a great deal for everything.

First it was Atari shutting down after Test Drive Unlimited, which was my favorite racing game of all time, and now Evolution with DRIVECLUB. Like, really?! Every time a good racing game comes out, the studio tends to shut down. Wtf?!

@jayskoon93: Agree with you re TDU - that was a great, game-changing (please ignore the pun) game. I didn't play DC (because Xbox) but there have been many great racing games since TDU; not sure if you can play the Forza and Forza Horizon games (PS vs xbox, etc) but they are great fun and probably inspired by TDU. Project Cars is a fantastic racer, tho very sim. I'm currently playing Dirt Rally, and if you like rallying it's properly impressive. Also the Crew is pretty good. And on pc there's Assetto Corsa and iRacing.

@vanquishre: or a remaster collection of all of the games (motorstorm, artic edge, pacific rift, Apocolypse and RC) that would be great. Please sony make it happen. You got Last of us, uncharted, Crash Bandicoot and others to be remastered. Even if its just Artic Edge for a PS2 classice.
