Sega of America plans to announce the release of its Dreamcast DVD-ROM this March.

The latest issue of the Japanese magazine Dengekiou reports that Sega of America will make an official announcement regarding its DVD-ROM drive for the Dreamcast console next March. For the unenlightened, the Dreamcast DVD-ROM will be able to play DVD movies. No other details have been revealed at this point.

Sega of America had previously informed GameSpot News that the company already had a working prototype of the Dreamcast DVD-ROM drive, and that DVD is definitely in the Dreamcast's future. However, Sega does not want to release details on the unit until the peripheral can be produced at a low cost for the consumer. Peter Moore, senior vice president of marketing for Sega, informed press at last month's Tokyo Game Show that, "DVD will come to the Dreamcast when it can enhance gameplay."
