Dragon Quest 11 Confirmed for Nintendo Switch; Gameplay Video Shows PS4 and 3DS Action

Get a glimpse of the new Square Enix RPG.

Dragon Quest XI has been confirmed for a third platform, and a new video has been released showing off gameplay from the PS4 and 3DS versions of the upcoming RPG.

Over on Nintendo's Japanese website, a post about the new video states that Square Enix plans to release the game on Switch--something that was inadvertently mentioned in 2015. No further details are shared, but it joins MMORPG Dragon Quest X in being confirmed for the new system.

The video is in Japanese, but you can still get the gist of what to expect without reading the limited amount of text that's shown. The video above starts out with the PS4 version as a player wanders a Slime-infested field. They later climb onto a horse that's used to explore some other areas, trampling enemies in their way.

It then transitions to showing Dragon Quest XI on 3DS. This portion shows a much different scene, as the player is instead wandering around a town, talking to people, and smashing barrels. As shown off in screenshots last year, the video shows off the two disparate images shown on each of the system's screens. On the top, you have a third-person view with 3D graphics, and on the bottom, you have a more traditional overhead viewpoint of the same action, but with retro-style visuals.

Dragon Quest XI does not yet have a specific release date, but it's expected to launch in Japan--at least on PS4 and 3DS--at some point in 2017.
