Dragon Age: Inquisition sees return of multiple player races

Third Dragon Age game will allow player to pick their race, as well as introduce mounts to the series for the first time.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will allow players to create characters from multiple races, developer BioWare has confirmed.

No Caption Provided

The developer spoke about the next entry of the fantasy RPG series in the latest issue of Game Informer, saying that the studio was addressing fan criticism of the second game for the sequel.

The original Dragon Age: Origins allowed players to create a character from a range of races. Its sequel, Dragon Age II, forced players into the role of a human named Hawke.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will also introduce mounts into the series, and reintroduce customisable armour.

In the game, the player will take the role as the head of the Inquisition, an organisation formed to confront evil and corruption in the land of Thedas.

"As the game begins, the Inquisition has plenty to investigate. War, scheming, and political strife have left the major power groups in the Dragon Age universe unable to operate effectively, which is a problem when a hole opens in the sky and demons begin pouring out. Players must fight back against the demonic threat while exploring a vast world and consolidating power for the growing Inquisition," said Game Informer's report.

"Large and varied environments, customisable armor, and the return of multiple player races are just a few of the ways BioWare is addressing feedback from previous titles in order to shape a new future for the franchise."

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2014.

@wexorian Witcher 2 is better than DA:O. Witcher 1 is better than DA:O. DA:O was very interesting, I actually started to replay but is stands nowhere near any of the Witcher games.

@wexorian maybe , but TW2 had alot more free content updates from CDPR (PC Players got the free upgrade to the enhanced edition when it was released for Xbox) , CDPR has a better business policy pro gamers.

@Auriken @Cloud_imperium @Enundr @wexorian is it me or did DLC for DA2 feel kind of empty? I actually liked them but they felt so outside of the story it was unreal, they should of worked them into chapter 2 and 3 not had a magical teleportation statue in your house from the start of 1

@Cloud_imperium @Auriken @Enundr @wexorian Lets not forget that they waved the price for the DLC only after they were certain that the game was a complete success and they wouldn't make much profit off the DLC in the first place.

@Auriken @Enundr @wexorian I won't go that far to say such thing . Enhanced Edition totally revamped Chapter 3 and Epilogue . Endings were explained lot better in Enhanced Edition , Bioware can't achieve that . I am gonna enjoy both Dragon Age and Witcher 3 and yes Bioware produce great DLCs but in the end CDPR gives more content for free .

@Enundr @wexorian That is correct but lets be honest here, not a single piece of DLC they released for The Witcher 2 even approached the level of content that that any of Bioware's story DLC produced.

@Auriken @robbiejones i will be getting witcher 3 , but with the recent EAware history , im going to ahve a wait and see attitude towards DA:I , not trying to compare the 2 to see which is better , theyre not the same game and both series have been radically diff from eachother to begin with.

@Auriken @robbiejones Was going to do the same. It is like no one realises gaming is not some elitist world where you can buy more than one title in the same genre......

Each game had their own good points, The witcher was finally a game that had adult themes and DA was actually an RPG.

Now combine the best of both of them and give me two awesome games!

@wexorian @Random_Matt ^ I hated the combat originally as I preferred the DA:O approach. Later on though once I really went deep into the tactics system and setting up a lot of cross class combos and building my characters skill trees it kind of just works very nicely.

@Random_Matt @Yamakoichi @noandno @sparvind I think the lady doth protest too much.

This seems less about RPGs and you just hating Bioware.

However if we are just going to be controversial for the sake of being controversial: Kotor > BG any day.

@Yamakoichi @Random_Matt @noandno @sparvind You have not played many rpg's then, DA 2 is trash. Bioware make trash games, BG 1 and 2 were the best and that team is no longer there.

@Random_Matt @noandno @sparvind I do love when people go onto a game article just to say, "I NO BUY", like anyone gives a toss.

I even now still do replays of DA:O then import over to DA2 and do the same.

Besides the copy paste areas and choiceless ending, DA2 is actually one of the best RPGs around. Shame they did not finish the last DLC and decided to make a whole new game from the idea.

I'm curious how large these environments will truly be. As I recall, even Old Republic offered mostly small maps surrounded by mountains. That said, I come to BioWare for story and characters. If I want expansive worlds, I can always count on Bethesda.

I just hope not all the races share the same voice actor....

Also if I am meant to be part of the chantey inquisition does that mean I cannot be a mage? or they just going to ignore that like they ignored me being a powergaming blood mage in 1 and 2.

Hopefully they learn as much as they can from the Witcher and Skyrim, I honestly do not mind if Bioware copy homework at this point as long as the game is good.

@Yamakoichi Actually, the preview video for the Game Informer issue mentions that the Inquisition is not a part of the Chantry and even opposed it.

@Morlanes The Witcher series is not about playing different characters. It is about the story. DA3 needs to be a real good game because W3 could be one of the best rpg series ever.

@Cashmoney007 @Morlanes The Witcher needs to learn what it I to be an RPG rather than a Hack'N'Slash. Hopefully the third one will actually see some RPG elements rather than feeling like a bland linear game.

@Yamakoichi @Cashmoney007 @Morlanes Diablo and Torchlight are hack'n'slash games. Learn definition of video game genres. Also The Witcher never was pure RPG. It's a hybrid like almost every high-budget game today. Also game is not linear. This is a lie.

@Yamakoichi @Pro-Aktivity @Cashmoney007 Lets face it, as much as I like the save import functionality it has almost zero effect on DA2. The same can sadly be said for the TW2 save import.

Both games have gear and crafting. Hell, you might not see entire chunks of TW2 depending on the decisions you make

@Pro-Aktivity @Yamakoichi @Cashmoney007 besides turn up, open new quest lines, gear and dialog options and even have their supporting missions depending on actions and choices from the first game and DA2.......

You know rather than just give you a different animated movie

@Yamakoichi @Pro-Aktivity @Cashmoney007 Actually kill the son and he helps you escape the prison and make an appearance near the end.

Perform a similar act in DA2 and the character would at most thank you and have no further impact on the story or gameplay.

@Pro-Aktivity @Yamakoichi @Cashmoney007 Here is an early example from TW2 Kills the son, no one cares, doesn't kill the son, no one cares and plot doesn't change........

At least in DA2 all the quest lines changed depending on what I choose, besides the two ending boss battles, which was the only thing that seemed to ignore your choice in DA2, everything else had consequence and effects on the story.

@Yamakoichi @Cashmoney007 If we're talking decision making and consequences, than TW2 easily blows DA2 out of the water. If anything one of biggest complains for DA2 was how linear the story was.

@Cashmoney007 Doing another play of the Witcher 2, it feels very much like a final fantasy game. Sure I could change my shirt, but besides that it is just a hack and slash game where I choose what awkward questions to ask.

I have no real impact on the story as nearly all of the dialog and choices are done fully by the character.

I would definitely say that DA:2 was the better game, even if I like the character and adult themes more in the witcher 2

@Yamakoichi @Cashmoney007 @Morlanes The W2 was a much better game than both DA2 and ME3. The Witcher series is very heavy on the story. The Witcher series has already had RPG elements.

I think they mean "we're gonna implement again what made DA:O great". Seriously Bioware, we're not 5 years old, don't talk us like we're dumb.

@arkhamcity54 As long as ME4 will be a lot better than ME3 then that would be good. ME3 should have been great. We will see what happens with DA3. If that game turns out well then I feel BW will be on the right track again.
