Dragon Age: Inquisition sees return of multiple player races

Third Dragon Age game will allow player to pick their race, as well as introduce mounts to the series for the first time.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will allow players to create characters from multiple races, developer BioWare has confirmed.

No Caption Provided

The developer spoke about the next entry of the fantasy RPG series in the latest issue of Game Informer, saying that the studio was addressing fan criticism of the second game for the sequel.

The original Dragon Age: Origins allowed players to create a character from a range of races. Its sequel, Dragon Age II, forced players into the role of a human named Hawke.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will also introduce mounts into the series, and reintroduce customisable armour.

In the game, the player will take the role as the head of the Inquisition, an organisation formed to confront evil and corruption in the land of Thedas.

"As the game begins, the Inquisition has plenty to investigate. War, scheming, and political strife have left the major power groups in the Dragon Age universe unable to operate effectively, which is a problem when a hole opens in the sky and demons begin pouring out. Players must fight back against the demonic threat while exploring a vast world and consolidating power for the growing Inquisition," said Game Informer's report.

"Large and varied environments, customisable armor, and the return of multiple player races are just a few of the ways BioWare is addressing feedback from previous titles in order to shape a new future for the franchise."

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2014.

... I just hope that the player character will be voiced. Which seems doubtful. Another round of ridiculously awkward and dull silent hero(es) seems to be coming.

@l777l With multiple races I think the protagonist will be silent. It takes you away from the setting if your skinny 4' elf sounds like James Earl Jones.

@Timmy_Gwar @l777l They have confirmed the protagonist will be voiced. Bioware are never going back to the silent protagonist, they hate it and think it's not cinematic.

@shingui5 @Onallion @Timmy_Gwar @l777l SWTOR's system files are mostly the voice work as I hear (ha!). Given the history and resources I kind of think multiple voices are plausible.

they said it was voiced when they also said it was a Human protag. It seems they are now shifting their stance on this, so expect an announcement of silent protag.

@Timmy_Gwar @Onallion @l777l It's not cinematic indeed. And I doubt a pitch slider would work properly.

Someone linked the forum thread on Bioware's social site. Mr. Gaider stated that they intend to have the player character voiced. - And the selection of what to say is supposed to be more informative, while not showing the full text of what is to be said. That builds some trust. Though, having 6 - 8 different PC voices seems wildly implausible.

@Onallion @Timmy_Gwar @l777l Agreed. Are there multiple voices? A pitch slider in character creation?

I just wish BioWare realized that the group of fans they once had sole possession of is now spending their money on Kickstarter games instead. This new demographic they seem intent on going after doesn't exist, and the sooner they'd realize that, the better it would be for everyone involved.

@downloadthefile Bioware is owned by EA, and it's starting to show. If a kickstarter was to be done, it would be done by former Bioware employees under a new studio name. I would be quite upset if Bioware did a kickstarter and took that money from the projects that don't already have huge financial backing. Money is money. I will be out of pocket, kickstarter or not, and either way has potential benefits.

@Morderwrath999 @Timmy_Gwar I think the successful kickstarters outweigh the scams. But yeah, there is potential to just take off with the cash. I just don't see Bioware as a company that needs kickstarter money when they have funding from EA.

Also, is Dragon Age 3 going to be fully open world? Or is it big areas where you can travel between them? It would actually be pretty neat if they try to do open world with no bounds. Without taking anything from the game of course.

can't really complain about an open world. Though i feel DA didn't need it.

DA:O didn't suffer from being set in 'areas' rather than a fully open world.

The failure that was DA2 did help me prepare for how stupid the plot of ME3 was, so it does deserve some credit.

They better make it good. DA2 left a sour after taste in my mouth. Witcher 3 and Dark souls 2 are also coming out in 2014 and i certainly don't plan to waste my cash like i did with DA2.

i dont think this one is going anywhere near DA2, rest assured. The backlash was big, that bioware seems to of learnt.

i got my money on this one being a true sequel, and honors the first

So many hatefull comments, so many rage. Game was quite good it was not trash, It was made in haste after DAO they were greedy just.

Game was decent , with good intro to Massive War and this whole trashtalk about da 2 began after mass effect 3 finale.

@wexorian I would agree with you, if it didn't get me ostracised. It's like they had a big idea but ran out of time so they had to cram it all into one city where certain characters just didn't fit.

true the game wasnt bad, but compared to DA origins it smelt like poo.So much was expected from da2, that the disapointment was overwheliming. You can tell 25 mins into the game, that this game is rushed. The characters were awful, and hopefully we wont meet them again.

Origins set the standards high.

@DARKKNIGHTPRABZ @wexorian .AHHThe leaving magic that was Dr greg and Ray. With their departure went quality assurance. RDA plummeted on DA 2.To sum, they would have pushed for a higher standerd like DA 1.

this sounds good. DA origins was a masterpiece in RPG story telling, its a shame that the rushed sequel meant that we would forget DA.

DA origins is one of the best this gen, loved the game.

And inquisition is one of my most anticipated

DA2 story was a mess

I really don't know what happen....I though I was a warrior Champion of Kirkwall or something but then I began to fell like a refuge in a new city, exploring dungeons that look almost exactly the same

The final part is so twisted and confusing with the whole sorcerer vs knight thing

I was siding with the magic type guy but then he turned into some fat monster and against me for no reason

Blood magic sucks but this thing took it too an entire new level

And then Meredith as the final boss is really lame and the whole story is stupid and retarded

Hope DA3 looks better than 2

@Monsterkillah Have you played 1st game? if not go play and you'l get why knights vs mages happens all time,

2nd. how you did not understood what happened if you push space button and choose random words you won't get story at all. it had quite interesting story and Shocking finale where war began.

@wexorian @Monsterkillah Even with full knowledge of the first game the story didn't work particularly well. They retconned several aspects of their own lore and Anders role in the finale was particularly contrived and even manged to work in a ham-fisted 9/11 visual reference. Mages were handled very poorly with almost every mage going for blood magic any moment they felt remotely threatened including characters who'd spent the entire game opposing the use of blood magic. compared to their previous high standards it was very poor and even now ME3's story which is entirely based on a narrative contrivance is still better.

The grey warden story are much better

This one felt ridiculous and forced, and for a game that hold the title dragon age there should be more dragon up there cos I only encounter one big dragon in a mission and that only last me less then half hour
