Doom's First DLC Releases Early, Check Out the Trailer
New maps, a demon, and more now available for $15.
The first paid downloadable content for Doom is now available, id Software announced today as part of QuakeCon's opening ceremony. Unto the Evil had been expected to launch tomorrow, August 5.
In addition to this surprise announcement, we got a new trailer for the DLC highlighting its various additions. These include three new maps (Cataclysm, Offering, and Ritual); a new weapon and item (the UAC EMG pistol and Kinetic Mine); a new demon (the Harvester); and new armor and taunts (such as robotic sets and a golf club-swinging taunt).
Unto the Evil is available now on all platforms for $15. It's also included as part of the $40 season pass, which offers access to a total of three multiplayer DLC packs that have been announced.
As reported last week, this DLC--despite including maps only some players have access to--avoids splitting up groups of friends. As long as you're in a party with someone who owns the new content, you'll be able to play the new maps.
Doom also continues to receive new, free content. One such update arrived last week and added two new modes and SnapMap functionality.
GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
