Doom Eternal DLC Is Out, Check Out The Trailer

The Doom Slayer has already dethroned and killed most of the chthonic gods of his realm, but his path of destruction will now continue regardless. Doom Eternal's new DLC--the Ancient Gods: Part One--is out, and it features a mix of the usual sci-fi tech-base levels that fans have come to expect, as well as some outlandish Amid Evil-esque environments. You'll be taking your decked-out slayer for another round of demon-murdering action. And with an ultra-difficult challenge to complete for a special reward, your mission won't be easy.

If you missed the story developments so far in Eternal, it boils down to this: after slaying both the resurrected Icon of Sin and the matriarch of the Maykrs, the forces of Hell have now overrun the realm of the Maykrs. In order to fill that power vacuum, the Doom Slayer returns to Urdak to finish the fight.

As its title implies, this is the first of a two-part DLC, and features three new levels for the campaign. It also introduces three new Support Runes to help you survive the carnage, as well as several new skins for the Doom Slayer. The gold plated Maykr skin requires you to beat the new campaign on Ultra-Nightmare, so good luck with that. The DLC costs $20, or $30 for the Year One Pass.

In GameSpot's Doom Eternal review, our critic Phil Hornshaw called the game a big step forward in making the franchise something new.

"Though it can take a bit to get the hang of it, the intricacies of Doom Eternal's combat, combined with its enhanced mobility and option-heavy level design, create a ton of white-knuckle moments that elevate everything that made Doom 2016 work so well," he wrote. "Its combat is just as quick and chaotic, but requires you to constantly analyze everything that's happening in order to come out victorious. Once you get the hang of the rhythm of Doom Eternal, it'll make you feel like a demon-slaying savant."

Doom Eternal is coming to the Xbox Series X and Series S as well as the PS5 in the future. It's also still confirmed for Nintendo Switch but didn't launch on that platform alongside the other systems.
