After a series of personal updates from id staff on the move to make a new Doom game, the company has released an official announcement confirming development of the game. It's still much too early for the game to have an official title. What is known is that the game will use the new 3D engine John Carmack has been working on since the completion of Quake III: Arena and that it will focus on a story-based single-player game experience.

"We expect to once again dramatically advance first-person gaming both technically and artistically with this title," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id. "id Software forever changed computer games with the Doom franchise, and only id can carry on the cultural and technical tradition of the original masterpiece."
