Doom Co-Creator Teases FPS Announcement in Star Wars-Like Video

John Romero looks set to announce his next shooter next week.

Doom and Quake co-creator John Romero recently teased a new PC shooter in a tweet, and now he's gearing up for an announcement for that shooter next week.

Romero posted a video on YouTube, titled "The Return." The video is reminiscent of a scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and features Id Software co-founder Adrian Carmack walking up to John Romero and holding a keyboard and mouse towards him. The video ends with an announcement date of April 25 and a link to Romero's new studio Night Work Games. You can watch the video for yourself below.

Night Work's website says it's developing "a new first-person shooter... in Galway, Ireland." There's currently no other information on the website, but you can sign up to get updates on its progress. What we do know is that it's a first-person shooter on PC, and it's likely that Adrian Carmack is involved in its development.

Earlier this week, a website for fictional company Hoxar Inc. was found and appeared to tease this new shooter. When ShackNews tweeted out its story on the fake company, Romero retweeted it and said, "Yes, there may be something to this" with hashtags for PC and FPS.

We'll keep you updated as more information about Romero's next PC shooter is revealed.

Trying to make us your bitch again John?

Well, suck it down!, nobody wants your shitty games.

I wonder how they both kept a straight face...

The video is hilarious. Watch it if you haven't, if only for Romero's gorgeous hair...

I remember all those "here's what's next from the new generation of badasses" articles and then Daikatana happened. That's all i will ever remember him for.

Daikatana 2? About time...wait...never mind...

What a d-bag. Nice to see he is still trying to make other peoples ideas his own. This clown had a small part on a hit game a quarter of a century ago and has released nothing but an endless stream of garbage since and people are acting like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury just rose from the dead and announced a super glam rock combo band. People that care about this eventual train wreck are the same type of people that think a Gn'R reunion is "awesome, dude!". If I want to see a sad rehash of dinosaurs from the 90's, I'll watch Jurassic World again.

@jski: So that's how you meet up with your parents

Hoxar sent out an email today too. It talks about stuff that's kinda like VR that draws from your memories, and it also mentioned a military simulation based on arctic warfare including a couple screenshots. I wonder if those screens are the actual game and the background story is that you're playing inside a sim, kinda like Assassin's Creed Animus.

John Romero's about to...

Avatar image for skyx26

@StokeMeAClipper: ... suck it down!, because nobody will ever buy another game related to him, in any way.

Avatar image for Redsyrup

@StokeMeAClipper: Please no more. That goes down in history as the worst advert ever conceived and executed.

Avatar image for StokeMeAClipper

@Redsyrup: I just wanted to see what people would add to the end of my comment.

Avatar image for Redsyrup

@StokeMeAClipper: I feel you. I've heard John go on record several times that he hated that advert and wish it never happened. Hindsight...

Avatar image for StokeMeAClipper

@Redsyrup: I saw an article about him apologising for that one when looking for the exact wording of the quote.

Avatar image for jski

@StokeMeAClipper ....announce a hot new mobile game?

Just a couple of dudes meeting up on craigslist .

Avatar image for ahpuck

Anyone knows where the video was shot at? That place looks awesome.

Avatar image for barrybarryk

@ahpuck: Galway, Ireland I think.
It looks like Ireland and that's where the company is based.

Considering the last shooter where he had a major influence was Daikatana, I am not going to get my hopes up because that game was garbage. I would love to be impressed by his new game though as he is a good guy and I do respect his work at id Software.

Avatar image for Falconoffury

@BassMan: Yes, and it was mainly due to mismanagement. He is older now, and hopefully wiser. He needs to make sure his staff is doing their job or fire them.

This is the real and lost ending to SW7........LMFAO

The Dark Lord Romero didn't want a measly laser sword, he wanted a keyboard and mouse cus then he'd be able to control everything......wait.....

Avatar image for heavygavel

@darthrevenx: To think that you wrote that ba-dup-tss comment under my joke...

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@heavygavel: it's ironic isn't it???? i never claimed to be a master jokester......

Avatar image for torchymcpyro

Oooooh I can't wait to play an overhyped game where I spend the first few levels shooting frogs and dragonflies and then give up because it's sooooo boring.

Fooled me once John , not going to make that mistake again.

Avatar image for naryanrobinson

@torchymcpyro: .

So you're never going to buy it then, regardless of how good it is.

Haha, incredibly dumb but suit yourself.

Avatar image for TonnFool23

@torchymcpyro: I rather have that then a game like Destiny tbh.
