Remember the public Doom beta that Bethesda is giving away with customers who preorder copies of Wolfenstein: The New Order? It's not too surprising, but Bethesda has confirmed it's only coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

If you preorder the new Wolfenstein on the old consoles, however, you'll still be able to play. Preordering on Xbox 360 will grant players access to the Xbox One Doom beta, and preordering on PlayStation 3 will let players get hold of the PS4 Doom beta.

"DOOM beta access correlates to your pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order platform," says Bethesda, also confirming that the Xbox One beta will require Xbox Live Gold while the PS4 beta will not require PlayStation Plus.

"If you purchase an Xbox 360 or Xbox One version of Wolfenstein: The New Order, you will receive an invitation to the Xbox One Doom beta. PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 purchasers will receive an invite to the PS4 Doom beta."

"All PC purchases will receive an invite to the PC Doom beta."

Bethesda has yet to show or tell us anything about the new Doom. All we know right now is that it exists. Wolfenstein: The New Order, however, will be released for all the new and old Sony and Microsoft consoles and PC on May 20.

Bethesda said in April 2013 that an earlier version of Doom 4 had been scrapped and the project was being rebooted. "An earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect," said Bethesda marketing man Pete Hines last year.
