Now Playing: 25 Years Of DOOM Anniversary Trailer

Doom has already had a big-screen adaptation, starring none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. That 2005 movie was panned and essentially disavowed by Johnson, but now another movie is on the way: Doom Annihilation.

This film is not destined for the multiplex, though. It's a direct-to-video movie, not connected to the other film, written and directed by Tony Giglio (who was also behind the direct-to-video movie S.W.A.T.: Under Siege). It follows the lore of Doom relatively closely, as a group of Marines respond to a distress call from a Martian moon base, only to discover it crawling with demons. Chaos ensues.

It's a concept that lends itself to camp. Check out the brief teaser-trailer below for a look at the marines, a demon or two, and some hellish dialogue.

It's worth noting that Bethesda and its parent company ZeniMax, which is currently at work on the upcoming Doom Eternal, don't hold any film rights to the franchise. The official Doom account tweeted that it is not involved.

That makes Doom Annihilation separate from the story of the 2015 Doom reboot and the upcoming Doom Eternal. For more, check out 25 years of Doom.

DOOM girl looks skinny and weak, I mean, come on! no DOOM guy no win... and it doesn't look good either.

I don't see the connection. The Doom games are about the Doom Marine killing thousands of demons, while this looks like a generic blockbuster movie with multiple random characters. They might as well have called it anything else.

The sad thing is that proper silver screen treatment of this IP could be incredible.

For the record, this is NOT that sort of treatment. Id should seriously consider suing these guys for damage to their IP (I know they cant I'm just being hyperbolic).

Lmao, this makes the first one look good. What a waste of money.

It's not hard to make a DOOM movie, seriously.

When something is this shitty, I want to say 'whats the point?' Then I remember, there's a market for this kind of movie. Honestly, though, if this pops up on Netflix, I'll probably watch it.

@Pierce_Sparrow: Oh boy. And then you hopefully realize that you are the market for it.

@Atzenkiller: Well he isn't exactly paying for it, but I imagine the publishers would get some financial reward for number of watches. So he would be indirectly supporting them.

@ecs33: That's how it works and that's why shit like this exists: because even if people call something outright shit, they'll watch it anyway. So many better alternatives but people still choose the crap, out of laziness or whatever.

@Atzenkiller: I won't seek this out or spend money on it, but I've watched my share of crappy movies.

Social justice hits Mars now. The infection has now spread into the solar system. UGH...It's DOOM Guy, NOT DOOM girl.

Whoever keeps greenlighting these Doom movies needs to be fired. None of these people understand what makes the games so famous because when the movies come out they're nothing like the games at all. Stop trying to give Doom movies some significant plot with bad acting. Doom games are awesome and Doom guy doesn't even say a damn word.

Look Hollywood, it's easy. Have Doom guy running around Mars destroying demons in every brutal fashion possible for about 3 hours.

Or better yet don't make a fucking movie at all. Most video games DO NOT NEED ON SCREEN ADAPTATIONS.

@Rushaoz: This isn't really a Hollywood production. It's some low budget indy crap

Avatar image for Atzenkiller

@Rushaoz: If people wouldn't watch this crap it wouldn't be made. But no matter what Hollywood might say, it's still doing way too well to be able to produce junk like that on a consistent basis, knowing that most of it will probably fail.

No one with any faith in their product would ever give their movie the subtitle "Annihilation."

I don't know that anyone should be using that subtitle for a video game movie. It really doesn't do it any favors. It just makes me think of Mortal Kombat's sequel.

Doom doesn't really work as a movie. One of the things that people praised about the new Doom was that it handled the story perfectly in that the main character didn't talk and didn't really care. It works for a video game because the draw of a game is its gameplay. For a movie, you can't do that. You can tell stories in its universe about people who aren't Doomguy, but nobody gives a shit about anybody other than Doomguy.

At least Uwe Boll isn't directing. That has to make it better right off the bat...

When the video format on GS is so bad that it can't even play a YouTube video on it's site. (infinite buffering)

I’m surprised it’s not a Netflix original. Shitty straight to video movies are what Netflix does.

Doom is about mindlessly shooting things for hours on end. It's hard to make that into a movie. I think I'd rather watch a streamer playing Doom for a few hours; the writing and plot couldn't be any worse.

Looks very low budget. And what soldier screams "Die die die"? Even when something won't stay dead.
