Don't Save Your Overwatch Loot Boxes to Get Items for the New Character

Loot boxes earned now don't include items for Ana (or any other future character).

Now that the new Overwatch character has been officially unveiled, you might be tempted to save up your loot boxes in the hopes of getting items for her, like one of those cool new skins. In short: Don't bother.

Blizzard is aware some people might be planning to do this, and so it's done those players a kindness and revealed that it won't work.

Now Playing: Overwatch - Ana Gameplay Trailer

"Now that we've revealed our upcoming hero, Ana, we know that some of you may want to try to prepare for her arrival either by stocking up on loot boxes or holding off on opening the ones you already have," one of the game's community managers wrote on the official forums. "Before you do that, though, please remember the following: Loot box contents are generated at the time that they earned or purchased, NOT when they are opened.

"This means that any loot box you earn or purchase now, or at any point before Ana is released, will not have a chance to contain her cosmetic items. Only those loot boxes that are earned or purchased after she is live and playable on your gaming platform will be eligible for her skins, sprays, voice lines, hero emotes, etc."

At least at this point, Blizzard doesn't have any plans to change how this works, either. "This is how the system will continue to work for future content updates, too," the post concluded.

You can try out Ana for yourself right now if you own Overwatch on PC. Simply set your region to PTR in the Battle.net launcher and you'll be able to test out everything in the newest update, which makes some major balance changes.
