Don't Expect More Fallout 4 Story Details Before Launch
Plus, Bethesda confirms it has DLC plans in mind for Fallout 4, but says, "That's not a focus for anybody right now."
To date, Bethesda hasn't given away much regarding Fallout 4's overall narrative. This was no accident, as Bethesda's Pete Hines explains in a new interview that the company doesn't want to give too much away, too early. Don't expect to hear much more about Fallout 4's story between now and launch, he said.
"I would be stunned if we said anything else about the story ever again [prior to launch]," Hines told IGN. "We're going to let everybody experience that in the game as much as possible. But there are certain trade-offs you have to make to build some amount of awareness to what the game is offering, so you're willing to make some sacrifices."
Thankfully for fans, Fallout 4 is coming out in a just a few more months. The game is scheduled to launch on November 10 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The game was "basically done" before Bethesda even officially announced it in June--the development team is now spending its time fixing bugs and polishing the game. After this, Bethesda will turn its attention to mod support and DLC.
"I can tell you with all confidence that right now the team is 100 percent focused on the game itself," Hines said. "Mod support, DLC… That's all nice, but if we don't deliver an awesome game by November 10 our DLC plans won't matter and our plans for mod support will be irrelevant. We have to deliver a great game [in the first place]."
"That doesn't mean [the development team] haven't spent some amount of time thinking about what they might do [regarding Fallout 4 DLC]," he added. "But honestly that's not a focus for anybody right now."
Fallout 4's mod tools are launching in 2016 for PC, and coming later to consoles. Meanwhile, firm DLC plans have not yet been announced, but if predecessor Fallout 3 is anything to go by, fans can expect some significant post-release add-ons.
Overall, Hines said he thinks every game that Bethesda Game Studios works on "pushes the boundaries of what is possible," and this is no different with Fallout 4.
"The team believes that this is the biggest, most ambitious game that they've ever made," he said. "And from the guys who made Skyrim, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Morrowind, that's a pretty lofty goal."
