Don't Expect Simpsons Movie 2 Soon

"The movie was such a time-intensive operation; it pulled a lot away from the show."

2007's The Simpsons Movie was generally well-received and made a lot of money, but don't expect a sequel to happen soon. Speaking with Variety, executive producer Al Jean talked about the strain producing the movie put on the show and why you shouldn't hold your breath for another film.

"The movie was such a time-intensive operation; it pulled a lot away from the show," Jean said. "I would rather end the show whenever that happens before doing another movie. It's unlikely there'll be another Simpsons feature while the show is being produced."

Jean's comments follow those from another Simpsons executive producer, James L. Brooks, who said last year in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Fox was interested in making a sequel. However, he explained that producing The Simpsons Movie was a "murderous" process and not one that he was interested to jump back into right away.

Variety's interview with Jean also touches on which celebrity he would like to see guest star on the show, as so many others have.

"Sadly, we would have wanted Neil Armstrong and J.D. Salinger but they both passed away. I keep saying Sandy Koufax but I've never gotten a call," he said.

Be sure to read Variety's full interview for lots more interesting insight about The Simpsons.

The enduring animated TV show was recently renewed for two more seasons, though Mr. Burns may not be a part of the show's future.

Why the hell are we getting news about the Simpsons and the Hunger Games on a gaming website?

Guess I'm the only one who thought the Simpsons movie was hit and miss, half the jokes were funny and the other half were terrible.

This marks the end of Gamespot... The only reason I stayed is because they didn't try to branch out to petty entertainment articles, which Eddie now has decided is game news.

Good luck Gamespot, can a moderator please terminate my account or tell me how.

Meanwhile, they could bring us another exiting Lady Gaga Cartoon Show (feat. "some yellow characters")

I can't wait for another "thrilling" and "uber-inspired" Simpsons movie, but I'll try to kill the anxienty fixing my recently broken Sarcasm Detector.

The "This show hasn´t been any good in years" comments are getting even older and unwittier than the show itself.

Considering Harry Shearer left Simpsons, they should just end the show entirely

Can the show just die already? If I even manage to catch a glimpse of any of the new episodes I can feel it poisoning my positive memories of the good old episodes. The way it's animated now with all the excessive shadowing feels so manufactured.

My guess, it's finished after the two renewed seasons and then a second movie to cap it all off.

No crap. Harry Shearer left the show, and the series is probably going to end once the next two seasons are up. Good riddance. The show hasn't been remotely good since season 9.

Don't tell me, there's something forcebly related to a Simpsons video game at the end of the article.

Edit: Hmmm, so it's not. Touché, Eddie, touché!

The Simpsons should have ended years ago. All they have been doing for the past ten years is milking it to death and destroying any dignity it might have had, had it finished gracefully.

The celebrity guest stars coincided with the show going downhill. Back when they had celebrity guest stars, they played other characters, not themselves. Remember Michael Jackson playing the asylum patient who thought he was Michael Jackson? Remember when the show was full of parodies of famous people as opposed to the actual famous people? Such as Drederick Tatum and Ranier Wolfcastle. But then in the movie they actually had Arnold Schwarzenegger which didn't make sense.

Eight years after the first film's release, do we really need an article telling us not to expect a sequel "soon"?
