Dominion Wars is based on the events that were portrayed in the last two seasons of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine television series, in which the Federation and the Klingon Empire joined forces against the Cardassians and the Jem'Hadar for control over the Alpha Quadrant. It's a 3D real-time strategy game that emphasizes tactical combat, and it's being developed by Los Angeles-based Gizmo Games, which was founded by former employees of Activision.

Dominion Wars will feature 30 missions spread across three campaigns, which detail the epic struggle between the warring factions. Over the course of the game, you'll get to control more than 20 different types of Star Trek ships, including everything from familiar Federation vessel to never-before-seen spacecraft that have been invented for Dominion Wars and officially canonized into the Star Trek universe.

Dominion Wars won't be about sending massive fleets of starships against your enemies' equivalent numbers - instead, you'll have a lot of control over no more than six ships at a time, and you'll need to select them carefully ahead of time so that you can most suitably accomplish your objective. In addition, your starship captains will gain experience and combat proficiency as they survive battles, just as you'll be awarded with additional responsibility from mission to mission that'll let you command a bigger and better fleet. Dominion Wars is scheduled to ship in October, and Simon & Schuster has allegedly kept quiet about the game thus far in order to save details on its ace in the hole until the game's release.
