Does Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Have A Zombies Mode?

The undead are arriving in Modern Warfare 3, but it's not the mode you might expect.

For the first time ever, Treyarch's Zombies is coming to the Modern Warfare series with Modern Warfare 3, but the mode will offer a different co-op experience than the traditional round-based Zombies that you might expect. Here is everything you need to know about Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode.

Not traditional round-based Zombies

Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode offers large-scale extraction gameplay instead of the traditional round-based experience, making this more of a mashup between Zombies and MW2's DMZ. This mode is designed for trios in a PvE environment, where you can also team up with other squads as matches feature up to eight squads of three for a total of 24 players. However, you can choose to jump into a match solo for an even greater challenge.

With this new open-world environment, you can choose how you want to play, as you can decide to either load into matches simply to slay the undead, or you can specifically choose to play Dark Aether story missions, hunt contracts, and more. The enemies found in the world include your standard zombies, a faction of human soldier NPCs, and a variety of other enemy types, including the mimic creature from Black Ops Cold War Zombies.

MW3's Zombies storyline

This year's storyline follows the events of Black Ops Cold War's Dark Aether narrative. MW3's Operation Deadbolt was created in response to the outbreaks witnessed during the events of the Cold War.

With Operation Deadbolt, select members of Task Force 141 must stop Viktor Zakhaev, an antagonist from Modern Warfare 2019, who has created an outbreak of the undead using a vial of Aetherium. This Zombie-creating substance is much like the Dark Aether crystals from the previous storyline, but it's now been processed into an even deadlier form, and Task Force 141 must uncover Zakhaev's full plans for the outbreak and Aetherium.

Largest Zombies map ever

This new mode is played on Warzone's brand-new Urzikstan map, making it the largest Zombies map to date and featuring more zombies than ever before. Urzikstan is an urban location that features 11 main points of interest, including cities, a farm, and a military base. The full map and Warzone details can be found here.

Wonder weapons, perks, and more

MW3's Zombies map will still include core features, such as the mystery box, iconic perk, and the Pack-a-Punch machine. There are classic Wonder weapons returning, as well as a new one called the Scorcher. The Scorcher can kill zombies, but the weapon can also be used as a mobility item to boost up and traverse the map in a unique way. Black Ops Cold War's upgrade system returns, allowing you to level up perks, field upgrades, and ammo types for even more helpful bonuses.

Much like DMZ, you can get heavily geared up with perks, Pack-a-Punched weapons, and keep the items saved for a later match by having a successful extraction from the map. This even includes special weapons like the iconic ray gun and the new Scorcher.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10, but you can start playing the campaign on November 2 if you preordered a digital copy. You can find all the Modern Warfare 3 preorder deals and bonuses here. More details for Modern Warfare 3 can be found here, including campaign, multiplayer, and battle royale. Preloading for multiplayer and Zombies begins on November 8.
