The much-anticipated new season of Doctor Who finally has a premiere date. It has been confirmed by the BBC that Season 11 of the long-running sci-fi adventure will premiere in both the US and UK on October 7.

Doctor Who Season 11 will be the first to feature a female Doctor, with Jodie Whittaker taking over from Peter Capaldi, who played the role since 2013. The first episode of the new season will be titled 'The Woman who Fell to Earth,' a play on the title of the classic David Bowie movie The Man who Fell to Earth. It will be screened on BBC America in the US and BBC One in the UK.

Now Playing: Doctor Who - Series 11 Official Comic-Con Trailer | SDCC 2018

Whittaker is playing the 13th incarnation of the iconic Timelord. She will be accompanied by three companions this time--Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill), and Graham (Bradley Walsh). The first full trailer for the new season was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The series also has a new showrunner, with Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall taking over from Steven Moffat. At the SDCC panel, Chibnall described how the new season would be a great place for new fans to join the show. "This year is the perfect jumping-on point," he said. "That person in your life who has never watched Doctor Who, I want you to go out and recruit them. Sit them down for Jodie's first episode so you can go, 'See?!' There is no barrier to entry this year! It's a big, inclusive, mainstream, accessible series."
