Doctor Who Season 11: First Trailer For 2018's Series Released
"New Doctor Who, new friends, new adventures"
The first teaser for the upcoming return of Doctor Who has arrived. The long-running British sci-fi show is back in the Fall, and the new teaser gives us another look at the brand new Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker.
The teaser doesn't actually reveal any footage from the upcoming season, but instead introduces some of the new characters. All are featured in everyday situations--there's Ryan (Tosin Cole) eating in a café, Yasmin (Mandip Gill) enjoying pizza at home, and Graham (Bradley Walsh) waiting in a chip shop. One by one they are visited by some some strange glowing light which immediately makes their situation more interesting, before Whittaker makes her appearance. Check it out above.
Doctor Who Season 11 doesn't yet have a confirmed premiere date, but it's very likely we'll find out this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, where the show is set to feature. The show started way back in 1963 and Whittaker is playing the 13th incarnation of the Doctor. She is the first woman to take on the role of the Time Lord. She was seen briefly at the end of the Christmas special last year, when the previous Doctor, Peter Capaldi, regenerated as her.
The show also has a new showrunner, with Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall taking over from Steven Moffat. In an interview last year with the Radio Times, Chibnall suggested the show might take a different approach from previous seasons.
"What the BBC was after was risk and boldness," he said: "I had ideas about what I wanted to do with it. When I went to them and said, 'This is what I would do,' I actually expected them to say, 'Ooh, let's talk about that.' But they said: 'Great!' I finally said yes because I love the show to my bones. I resisted it for a very long time, and [the BBC] really had to woo me."
