Doctor Strange TV Spot Has Ties To X-Men The Animated Series

The latest Doctor Strange TV spot confirms a character's appearance, but not the version we ever expected.

Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness has hinted at Spider-Man: No Way Home levels of comic book movie appearances across the board. In the first trailer, we had the good doctor appear before the Illuminati, which was confirmed in the latest TV spot, but that's not all.

We see a golden chair glide at the end of the footage and Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier speaking once again. "We will see what kind of Doctor Strange you are," he says.

It's a quick flash, but the chair he's gliding in is unmistakable to the design that was used in the X-Men: The Animated Series. The chair itself mirrored the chair used by Xavier in the now legendary X-Men relaunch from Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, but it's the green jacketed sleeve that really makes it an animated series homage.

After years of being fan casted in the role, Stewart portrayed Charles Xavier starting with the first X-Men movie from 2000, eventually returning to the franchise in 2014's Days of Future Past and last seen in 2017's standalone X-flick, Logan. The role of Professor X was given to James McAvoy in 2011's X-Men: First Class and the two shared the role in "Days", because of time travel.

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness hits theaters May 6.
