DmC: Devil May Cry Dev's Next Game, Hellblade, Pushed into 2017

Hellblade still doesn't have a specific release date in 2017, however.

Ninja Theory, developer of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry, has confirmed its next game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, will now launch in 2017. Although the title wasn't previously given a firm release date, the studio was aiming for a 2016 launch.

In a production update the studio explained the causes for this shift in launch window, revealing Ninja Theory had a separate project in development which was cancelled and required "some time to sort out."

Additionally, the studio took the opportunity to further develop performance capture technology and partnered with Epic Games to do so. The result, it says, will benefit the whole video games industry.

Finally, it admitted that progress on development of Hellblade hasn't been as rapid as it would like, and the team is opting to take their time to ensure the experience is high quality.

Ninja Theory announced Hellblade at the very start of its development cycle, which is uncommon. Over the course of its production, the studio has released regular updates showing how it is approaching each aspect of the game. The most recent development diary explored auditory hallucinations and the experience of hearing voices. This ties into mental health, which is one of the central themes of Hellblade.

Sony has secured Hellblade as a timed PS4 exclusive. However, the game is also in development for PC.

Their games are terrible, just cancer so why would anyone care after all these years.

They don't want to make the same mistake they made with DmC. Which is why they should stick to make there own games instead of rebooting old ones. Good to see they are not as arrogant as they were when they said they would make a better DMC.

@RedXJW: Except their DMC actually wasnt too bad, it had some small flaws, but had a lot of fun stuff, and on higher difficulties was just as hard and showed a lot of promise. Sadly their mouth and 1st concept of Dante were horrible and even though in the final game there was a lot of fixes, most were still too mad to try it.

@inebriantia: I had so much damn fun with the game, the gameplay, fast paced action, enemies, level designs, death metal music but yeah, Dante in this game was pretty bad but not enough to make me not play the game.

@taylor_sparks: The whole game was a middle finger to the fans of the original series so I don't know what there is to be enjoyed. The disgusting messages were spread out everywhere through out the whole game. I agree on the music part but everything else was cancer.

@airrwof: You guys just complain about it because, "Oh my god they messed up Dante, this whole game sucks now waaaaahhh"

I know Hellblade is supposed to be digital-only but I keep hoping that changes at some point and it gets a physical release.

Well just take your time and make it right as I always say. I have yet to play their DMC game.

It's looking good. Ninja Theory is doing amazing work with such a small dev team. I have enjoyed their videos along the way and look forward to playing the game.

Another game delayed ???? :O who could have imagined that could even happen

side note: Their always going to be know as the studio that fucked up DMC

Avatar image for taylor_sparks

@dante116: They didn't screw up anything except for Dante. Why is it always that reason with you people? Just because they screwed up Dante doesn't mean they messed up the entirety of the game.

@dante116: As someone who loved the 1st 3(4 was meh) their version wasnt that bad actually and by the end it showed a lot of promise. Did you try it? What fucked it up for you?

@dante116: it was different but it was still good, I enjoyed it!
