Disturbing Super Mario Maker Video Explores Waluigi's Unbearable Existence

What does it all mean?

The last thing we expected to see in Super Mario Maker, a game which allows you to craft your own stages from the bits and pieces of various Mario titles, was one of its characters facing an existential crisis.

But that's exactly what Kris (@themaplebeast) has created in a level called Waluigi's Unbearable Existence.

What starts off as a series of tricky crouch jump shuffles quickly escalates into Waluigi being forced to contemplate the realities of his existence; his inner demons surfaced through floating messages written in coins.

Can he even read them from down there? Does he even understand what's happening? Or is he oblivious to it all, content to wander around rooms collecting coins? We have so many questions.

Anyways, this is a disturbing and wonderful example of how Super Mario Maker--along with some video editing--can lead to more than just knock-off Nintendo levels. For more, check out this homage the Metal Gear Solid 4 microwave scene.

In our Super Mario Maker review GameSpot awarded the title a 9/10.

"The game won't necessarily turn you into the next Shigeru Miyamoto, but you can almost feel a little bit of that magic rubbing off every time you upload a new creation," said our reviewer.

"And for the first time in a creation-focused experience, I look forward to returning again and again for more than just the amazing levels I know other people will create. I want to keep making my own levels better."
