Disney's New Cruise Ship Has A Star Wars Bar And Marvel Studios Restaurant

The Disney Wish cruise ship will let you have cocktails in Star Wars canon or maybe even eat dinner with Spider-Man.

With Disney set to reopen its California theme parks, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, this week for the first time in over a year, the company is also looking to the seas. Disney Cruise Lines has revealed its newest ship, the Disney Wish, and if you're a fan of Star Wars and Marvel, you should probably pay close attention.

The Wish is Disney's most advanced ship yet, loaded with two movie theaters, a number of restaurants, and the line's first "attraction at sea," which is essentially a waterslide turned into a short Disney theme park ride. However, there's also quite a bit of Star Wars and Marvel influence on the new ship.

For adults, the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge will be there for all of your space cocktail needs. You can take a look at concept art for the bar below. There aren't many details about what to expect there, but we wouldn't be surprised if the cocktails menu took inspiration from Oga's Cantina, the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge bar at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. That means, hopefully, spiked blue milk, and a list of cocktails with wildly Star Wars names.

As for the design of the bar, Disney looked to a surprising source for inspiration.

"We looked at kind of a sophisticated side of Star Wars," Walt Disney Imagineering senior creative director Danny Handke explained during a press event. "We wanted to try something a little bit different than what we have in our theme parks, and we were really inspired by--if you're familiar with the film [Solo: A Star Wars]were inspired by Dryden Vos's yacht, and that's why we thought a little yacht ship that's kind of this party cruise around the galaxy where you're jumping to different locations."

As you can see above, the bar features a porthole window to space, featuring new animation created by Industrial Light and Magic. With that screen, guests at the bar will watch the ship they're on jump around to different planets familiar to Star Wars fans.

If Marvel is more interesting to you, you're in luck. The World of Marvel restaurant is what Disney is calling a "cinematic dining adventure." It's an interactive story that immerses guests into an interactive story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are no details on what all it will include at this point, but taking a look at the concept art below might give an idea. As you can see, it mentions a dinner presentation by Pym Technologies--otherwise known as from the mind of Ant-Man's Hank Pym. Chances are that means we could be seeing some of the food from Pym Test Kitchen at Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure making its way to the ship.

For those curious, Disney stressed that both of these experiences are set in the worlds of Star Wars and the MCU, meaning technically you can go get drinks at this cruise ship bar and become Star Wars canon.

The first Disney Wish cruise sets sail in June of 2022. Reservations for the ship open on May 27 of this year.
