Disney Is Making A Live-Action Bambi

CGI deer for everyone!

Did you think Disney was going to slow down on making live-action adaptations of animated classics? Of course not, every time they release one, it makes gob of money. Or, in the case of Lady & the Tramp, it proves to be a useful launch title for the Disney+ streaming service.

With that in mind, you shouldn't be shocked to hear Disney is reportedly moving forward on bringing Bambi to life. Well, bring it to as much life as the heavily-CGI'd The Lion King in 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking). A director has not been named. The two previously collaborated on a script for Silver & Black, the proposed Spider-Man spin-off that was being developed by Sony Pictures.

Originally released in 1942, the animated Bambi received three Oscar nominations--for best song, best score, and best sound. It has not been confirmed how much of the new movie will be in actual live-action, but THR cites that insiders liken it to The Lion King and The Jungle Book, two live-action Disney films that rely on CGI technology to create the animal characters.

A release date for the live-action take on Bambi has not been announced.
