"The launch on Steam early access has been a resounding success," said Frank Sagnier, CEO Codemasters. "We want to thank the community for their valuable feedback and support which has guided our development for the past eight months ... We are now ready to launch the final version of the game on PC.

"Following this success on PC and a vocal demand from consumers, we are delighted to announce that Dirt Rally will be available on consoles on April 5, 2016."

The official PC launch also brings with it the Winter Wonderland update. This includes "a new rally set in the snow and ice of the Varmland region of Sweden." Also included are the Hyundai Rally and Volkswagen Polo Rally vehicles.

In GameSpot's Dirt Rally Early Access review, Richard Wakeling said Dirt Rally "has room for improvement in terms of production values, but it more than makes up for this with a robust and in-depth driving model that’s as exhilarating as it is rewarding."

He continued: "The stiff challenge it presents won't be for everyone, but the prospect of mastering its many intricacies is a tantalising proposition I'm sure many will gladly tackle.

"This is not the Dirt we once knew, but a reinvention of the series that’s going in all the right directions. You should consider getting in on the ground floor."

Might have to give this a go. Been dying for a racer on PS4 and I do love rally games.

I really liked the original Dirt (didn't play the others). Keen to look into this one.

Sweet!! Figured it would eventually come to consoles (my PC rig needs too much upgrading right now) but April is sooner than I expected. Great news!

Holy crap, best news in gaming I've heard in a while, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get this on my X1, all my friends on Steam who had it told me it's amazing, I can't wait!

Awesome. I've been looking for a solid sim racing game on the PS4. I would be playing F1 if it wasn't for all of the bugs.

The game is GREAT!

I got it day 1 in early access and despite the fact I have to admit I didn't play it much (I have soooo many games to catch up on) it is REALLY good!

It indeed takes us back to rally roots.

No more cheap @$$ ad spamming about Monster Energy Drinks or whatever.

This is true to rally as you have to fight for your time more than against other racers, you have to take care and try to prevent damaging your car cause you have limited repair time between different segments.

This game is meant for hardcore fans who wanna MASTER rally the way it should be done!

Previous Dirt games were FUN whereas this one is more sim oriented. (Which is still plenty of fun if that's what you're in for)

It doesn't try to be "cool" or "forgiving" like previous Dirt Titles.

Funny how all series come back to their roots. It's like companies finally listen to their fans when the last game flops.

@oasisbeyond77: Nah, most of the time when that happens the IP just goes into hibernation.
