As our more attentive readers will by now know, Capcom's newest "survival horror" game, Dino Crisis, has been released in Japan, to almost universally glowing reviews. Could it be the combination of real-time polygonal backgrounds, superbly rendered characters, and that famous Resident Evil-style pacing that critics and gamers enjoy so much? Could be! As is now quickly becoming habit, Dino Crisis also rewards the gamer with a multitude of incentives to replay the game.

Spoiler Alert: Warning! If you do not wish to have the slightest idea of what secrets await you once you "complete" Dino Crisis, then read no further! For the rest of you who couldn't give a rat's @$$ about whether the cat's out of the bag, read on.

As would be expected, Dino Crisis contains three separate endings, depending on your actions during the course of the game, just like in Resident Evil. These endings are CG-rendered endings of a Die Hard-like nature. You are also critiqued at the end, depending on your completion time, number of times you saved, and how many continues you used. More importantly, there are a number of secret costumes for you to unlock. Once obtained, these costumes can be selected before you begin a new game. None of that "find a key, find a closet" crap here. Depending on the costume, you'll also be able to use funky-looking weapons (think of the secret weapons found in Sega's Last Bronx). Likewise, you can also unlock weapons of an infinite-ammo nature. Also, like Resident Evil's battle mode, there is a mode called "Operation: Wipe Out." No, you cannot race down futuristic tracks in dinosaur-shaped ship, but instead, you'll have three minutes in to find and destroy ten remaining dinosaurs in the island base. Easier said than done since you'll usually have to face two dinos at a time. So, for gamers looking for the deeply hidden dirt on Dino Crisis, there you have it. If anything else pops up in the game, we'll be sure to let you know, but in case you were wondering, no, there is no Akuma mode in Dino Crisis. So don't even ask!
