Digital Illusions acquires Sandbox

The Stockholm-based game company establishes a North American operation with the purchase of Canadian developer Sandbox Studios.

Digital Illusions, the Swedish developer behind games such as Motorhead, Rally Masters, and Codename Eagle, has purchased Toronto-based Sandbox Studios. Through the deal, Digital Illusions will establish its own development, production, and sales operations in North America. According to Digital Illusions CEO Patrick Söderlund, the new group already has eight games scheduled for launch in 2001 and at least three more in 2002. Digital Illusions plans to seek a listing in an accredited marketplace in the next year.
