Digimon World: Next Order - Everything We Know About The Upcoming Switch And PC Port

The sixth Digimon World game is finally coming to PC and Switch.

Comments

Developer Hyde is working on a Nintendo Switch and PC port of B.B. Studio's Digimon World: Next Order, which is set to launch next month. A roleplaying game with digital pet mechanics, Digimon World: Next Order is the sixth and most recent mainline entry in the Digimon World series. Its claim to fame is that it is the first Digimon World game to give you two Digimon partners at the start instead of just one. Below, we go over everything we know about Digimon World: Next Order, including when it's coming out and its PC system specs.

Previously, Hyde worked on 2022's Digimon Survive, taking over production of the game midway through development. In GameSpot's Digimon Survive review, I wrote, "Digimon Survive is regularly dragged down by tedious tactical combat, and it negatively affects other sections of the game too, like exploration and Digimon evolutions. It's not enough to ruin an otherwise great visual novel, but it does put quite a damper on the whole experience."

Release date

Digimon World: Next Order is already out in the wild, having launched solely in Japan in 2016 before then being released internationally in 2017. The game's Nintendo Switch and PC versions are scheduled to launch this year on February 22.

What we know

In Digimon World: Next Order, you play as one of two high school students--Takuto or Shiki--who find themselves transported to the Digital World, where they meet and befriend two Digimon partners. With the Digital World in disarray following the rampages of Machinedramon, you vow to stop him.

With your partners in tow, you can explore the Digital World, encountering virus-infected Digimon that can be defeated and recruited to your side. Your Digimon partners grow stronger with each battle. If you also care for them--which involves feeding, training, and disciplining them--they can gain the ability to Digivolve into more powerful forms.

As you continue to explore and recruit more Digimon, you can upgrade your home base--a flying city called Floatia--with new buildings and places for your Digimon to form their own little community.

Platforms

As of February 22, Digimon World: Next Order will be available for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

As Digimon World: Next Order first launched on and was designed for PS Vita, it should make for a great choice on Switch (and PC for those who own a Steam Deck).

Trailers

Bandai Namco Entertainment released a new gameplay trailer for Digimon World: Next Order that depicts how the game will look on Switch and PC and also details the gameplay loop. As this is a straight-up port and not a remaster or remake, the game doesn't seem to play or look all that different from the PS4 version that was released in 2017.

Multiplayer details

Digimon World: Next Order is entirely single-player and does not feature a multiplayer component.

DLC/Microtransaction details

Bandai Namco Entertainment has not announced whether Digimon World: Next Order will receive post-launch DLC content, though we're inclined to think it won't since it's a port.

Preorder details

Neither the Switch nor PC versions of Digimon World: Next Order are available for preorder, but you can wishlist the game on Steam.
