DICE, Visceral producer leaving EA

Gordon Van Dyke ending six-year run with megapublisher; won't say where he's headed next.

On April Fools' Day last year, then-Battlefield: Bad Company 2 associate producer Gordon Van Dyke announced he was leaving Swedish studio DICE for another Electronic Arts-owned studio, Visceral Games in California. Now, the game developer is leaving EA altogether.

Where might Van Dyke be headed?
Where might Van Dyke be headed?

According to a message posted on his Twitter account, this week is Van Dyke's last with EA. He has worked with the publisher for six years, beginning as a quality assurance tester. Following that, Van Dyke worked on a range of Battlefield properties with DICE in an associate producer capacity, including Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Van Dyke then held a producer position at Visceral Games, where he led multiplayer production with a remote team on an unannounced AAA title. EA has yet to formally announce that game, but it has posted job listings saying it is working on a "bold new IP."

As for what's next for Van Dyke, he would not say where he was headed, but he did note that he hopes to have something to share regarding his career path next month.

EA is a bad place to work, for one is not very rewarding working for evil maga corporation, then like many others he maybe believes that EA is going down hill do to miss management... and your creative freedoms are very much being limited working in a mega corporate environment where statistical data is the deciding factor what and how to develop - and not creativity and limit pushing.. i would not wanna stay either if i would be successful in the game developing industry

@Dragacane They have been much better than CoD from the beginning... Point 1: Destructible environments Point 2: Scale (map size + # of players) Point 3:Vehicles PC-centric FPS games rule.

@robfield EA doesn't necessarily have to be a bad place to work if he's leaving. Maybe he just wants some change in his work.

Message to EA: Hire more loyal employees or be a more appealing company. There has to be something going on at EA, one of the top publishers in the industry, to make high level employees want to leave.

I dont really see this as being news, the man who was a associate producer for some of worst battlefield titles.... Battlefield is really a pc game - 2 of these titles never made it to pc, 2142 was a lame mod for the best battlefield game ever made BF2. And bfbc2 was a poor console game conversion to the pc. God I just want another real battlefield game again and so far with what they have shown for bf3, BF2 will always be the ultimate shining star for this franchise.

I say that GS only starts publishing news about the ongoings of Exec Producers, Lead Designers, Lead Art Designers, etc.... It is just getting a bit much when we start making the quality control guy at Visceral and his career moves a news story. Not that he isn't important but lets be honest, I doubt he will be missed in a massive company like EA.

Six years in one place is a long time nowadays. Most people bounce around from job to job, if they can ensure the job security, which a gaming producer most likely can. I'm sure they're sad to see him go, but I'm sure a new company will love him and even Dice and Visceral will benefit by getting fresh blood to keep their games interesting rather than derivative.
