Diablo 4 Helltide Events Guide

Eliminate countless foes during Helltide Events in Diablo 4.

Comments

The Diablo 4 Helltide Event is a type of endgame activity. In it, you'll need to defeat numerous monsters to acquire a currency. Naturally, you'll receive some nifty rewards in the process. Here's our guide to help you complete Helltide Events in Diablo 4.

How to Complete Helltide Events in Diablo 4

Helltide Event Unlock Requirement, Location, and Schedule

The Diablo 4 Helltide Event becomes available after you complete the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon so you can switch to World Tier 3: Nightmare.

The activity itself occurs periodically. As of the time of this writing, we believe it's every other hour, with the activity itself lasting for an hour, too. As for its location, that is random, too. It can occur in any of the game's five regions--Fractured Peaks, Scosglen, Dry Steppes, Kehjistan, and Hawezar. Entire zones will have a blood-red hue, signifying that a Helltide is active. The only exceptions, as far as we've seen, are capitals/hubs, PvP zones, and the Tree of Whispers area.

The map shows portions of Kyovashad that look bloodstained, signifying that a Helltide is active in those zones.

How to Get More Aberrant Cinders

The goal in Diablo 4 Helltide Events is to defeat as many enemies as possible within an hour so you can amass a currency called Aberrant Cinder. The tally will then appear in the upper-right corner of your screen. Ideally, you'll want to group up with friends just to make the grinding and clearing process smoother. Having buddies certainly helps when you have to battle numerous foes.

Moreover, it's best to look for larger packs, summoners/conjurers, and events. This includes the Demonic Portal event where hostiles will start spawning in. The more enemy hordes you encounter, the more you can kill and loot for Aberrant Cinders.

Important: Stay alive if you can during Helltide Events. Each death that occurs will also cause you to lose a portion of your current Aberrant Cinders. Given that World Tier 3: Nightmare has level 53+ enemies, you'll need to be prepared if you're underleveled and undergeared.

Large enemy packs and events yield a lot of Aberrant Cinders. Just try not to die or you'll lose quite a lot of them.

Helltide Harbingers and Bosses

Likewise, be on the lookout for special elites called Helltide Commanders. These will appear from time to time, either via a summoning circle or after an artillery bombardment. They tend to reward decent drops, including high-end materials like Fiend Rose and Forgotten Soul, not to mention a bunch of Aberrant Cinders.

There are also high-level bosses that might spawn in the region. For instance, we encountered Kixxarth, Helltide Assassin, at one point in the Fractured Peaks. This was a level 72 foe, even though most players in the area were only level 50+.

How to Exchange Rewards

Another important thing of note is that Diablo 4 Aberrant Cinders will completely disappear and reset to zero once a Helltide Event ends. As such, it's imperative that you exchange the currency for rewards. This is done via demonic chests called Tortured Gifts. They come in different varieties and costs. You'll also see the item slot that you'll receive as a reward. Here's the gist:

  • Weaponry
    • Light Weaponry - One-handed weapons, off-hand frills, and shields; costs 125 Aberrant Cinders.
    • Heavy Weaponry - Two-handed weapons; costs 150 Aberrant Cinders.
  • Protection - Consists of helmets, chest pieces, gloves, pants, and boots; these all cost 75 Aberrant Cinders.
  • Jewelry
    • Rings - These chests cost 75 Aberrant Cinders.
    • Amulets - These chests cost 125 Aberrant Cinders.
  • Mysteries - These are randomized gear pieces, with a high chance of dropping Sacred/Ancestral gear. There are also some key factors to remember:
    • Unlike the other chests, Tortured Gifts of Mysteries don't show up on the world map. Instead, you'll have to roam around until you see one. They may also disappear after several minutes have passed.
    • These cost 175 Aberrant Cinders, so make sure you amass enough of the currency while staying alive.

Note: Tortured Gifts, Helltide Harbingers, and some public events will also drop high-tier materials, such as Forgotten Soul and Fiend Rose.

Since Tortured Gift chests reward items for a certain slot, you can choose the ones that you really need upgrades for.

In any case, the Diablo 4 Helltide Events will have you grinding and looting all throughout the endgame. These are fairly rewarding activities, and you can amass a lot of gear, as well as materials. There's also a good chance you'll receive some Sacred and Unique items if you're lucky enough. Lastly, don't forget that this is just one facet of the endgame. There are still others to check out, such as the Paragon Board and Nightmare Dungeons.
