In the short time since its release, Diablo IV has been a major earner for Activision Blizzard, as the company revealed that the game has been one of its fastest-selling titles of all time. Overall, the game helped set a record quarter for Blizzard with over $1 billion in net bookings.

According to Activision Blizzard in its second quarter 2023 financial results, Diablo IV had sold through more units than any other Blizzard game at an "equivalent stage of release" and player retention was particularly strong. With over 10 million people playing the game in June alone, over 700 million hours of activity had been logged last month.

In Europe alone, Diablo IV is 2023's second fastest-selling game so far, and is beaten only by Hogwarts Legacy according to GamesIndustry.Biz. PC was unsurprisingly the most popular platform--a devilish 66% of players chose to play on PC--and PlayStation 5 attracted 21% of Europe's Diablo IV playerbase.

In the US and Canada, Diablo IV was the most-downloaded game on PS5 and PS4, beating some stiff competition in the form of Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy 16 to take the top spot. Five days after it launched, Blizzard reported that Diablo IV broke $666 million in global sales.

An interesting side-effect of Diablo IV's success is that the free-to-play Diablo Immortal has seen a resurgence in players, with Blizzard adding that June monthly net bookings for the mobile and PC title reached its highest level since January 2023.

Looking ahead to July 20, Diablo IV's first season will kick off. A massive Diablo IV patch has been released to prepare the game for Season of the Malignant and the overpowered Malignant Hearts that'll be added during this seasonal period.
