Diablo III's patch 2.3.0 is now live on PC, Blizzard announced today. Detailed on Battle.net, the update is now available to download for players logging into the Americas region. Players logging in from a European or Asian client will have to wait until the patch is released for those regions.

The update introduces a number of new features, most notably an item called Kanai's Cube which bears a few similarities to Horadric's Cube in Diablo 2. Kanai's Cube can be used to extract powers from Legendary items which players can then equip. Extracting consumes the item in the process, but permanently adds the power to a collection. Depending on the type of item they originated from, powers will be assigned to either the weapon, armour, or jewellery category. Players can have up to one power from each of these categories equipped at a time, and are free to swap between them from the Cube at any time.

Kanai's Cube also offers players the opportunity to reforge Legendary items, "completely randomizing every roll on the item as though it had dropped brand-new and removing any existing enchants." Reforging can result in an Ancient, but reforging an Ancient is risky because it may not remain as one.

Patch 2.3.0 also adds torment levels up to ten, which can only be accessed by players who meet the following Paragon level requirements.

  • Torment VII requires a Paragon level over 100
  • Torment VIII requires a Paragon level over 150
  • Torment IX requires a Paragon level over 200
  • Torment X requires a Paragon level over 250

A new zone called The Ruins of Sescheron has opened up for exploration. Players can explore the frozen wasteland to find Kanai's cube. Season four will kick off on August 28, with a new Season Journey feature that will allow players to track their individual progress through the Season. Seasons are exclusive to the PC version of the game, but Blizzard recently discussed the possibility of bringing them to the console.

The game was already easy, people were running through T6. I think the cube is just going to make people even more overpowered where they will be able to do that in T10.. it will still lack team play IMO.

It's been such a long crazy ride with Diablo 3, but I've enjoyed watching it evolve from its frustrating hard as nails origins with Hellfire and the bogus RMAH to the progression based grift end-game it has now.

I'm glad the console version was released as well, not only because it gave the game to a bigger audience and allowed people to play it offline, but because it completely validated the online-only decision for PC relative to keeping an environment safe from hackers.

It's evolved so much and I honestly think it's the best ARPG of all time, even surpassing D2. The gameplay is miles above anything else, and I'm glad they've fixed itemization so this amazing aspect of the game can be appreciated.

Looking forward to the new season, think I'm gonna roll a monk! :)

Look forward to playing it. I love Diablo 3 on PC these days, don't play much due to a huge backlog of games but it's instant addiction when I do play.

People don't realize it's perfectly ok to like multiple ARPG's. Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Diablo 3......and so on....all great.

@Frozzik: It was an overarching point lol, I was emphasizing it because I'm sure most of the traffic here is generated by people not accepting that it's okay to like multiple of anything.

@okab3: "aren't any significant competitors in this genre."

It's hilarious how all these fanboys think Diablo 3 is the only viable game created in this genre.

D3 is the worst of the lot. Stupid cartoonish graphics, lame level design, boring story. All the blizzard fanboy kiddies seem to love it though, lol. Kids are easily amused.

@WolfGrey: I play all 4 games. They aren't better than D3. They're great i'm not gonna lie, but D3 is greater in every aspect. The only thing path really has going for it to make it stand apart is it's skill tree, but even that is boring when 90% of the skills are useless things you take just to get to the good ones.

Dont' get me wrong, I'm not hating on any of the competitors. They simply don't touch the depth and replayability of D3.

@okab3: The change wasn't awful, the way they forced players to play was. Always online sucks, market place sucks, the dungeons were all the same and there wasn't much to the game.

Expanded story from expansion was good and new area makes it great. I will be playing this again.

Well you cant please everyone but i dont think blizzard has anything to worry about...every season D3 fills with tons of players who are comming back for some hacking and slashing.

Its your right to hate the game if you want to, but believe it or not the game is a success and it only gets better with every update and its the strongest hack&slash game out there by far ( not everyone will think this way because its still not a fully objective thing to say, but blizzard are the masters of smooth and fun gameplay and its nearly impossible to compite with them on that department and the core of Hack&Slash games is the gameplay -- and looting which was improved tremendously over the years so yeah...).

For conclusion for me they are doing a great job with improving the game and they are actully giving us the updates for free instead of charging for DLC's... so anyhow i see you in Season 4 pew pew.

However Path of Exile, Marvel Heroes, and Grim Dawn are all stronger arpg/hack and slashers. Also a lot more in depth with a lot more possible builds. Which makes the game for me.

@WolfGrey: You said "stronger" in a very subjective way, stronger by what standarts? success? i really dout that any of those game got anywhere near the income of D3, playerbase? same thing.

Its stronger for you because like you mentioned its the thing you like the most, but its not the thing that makes a hack&slash game more successfull as it can be seen by the reletive numbers.

After saying that, i would not mind to see more varaity in D3 build wise, but the train for the skills system went off long time ago and i dont see them changing such a big system as an update or even as a part of an expansion.

P.S I played all the games you mentioned since i am a fan of Hack&Slash games, and many others. Most of them got some cool features here and there but you really cant compite with a company that gives the Devs alot of time to smooth and master the gameplay. The games that still going for the D2 gameplay style are usually doing it right (+/-) but its only because its a very simple gameplay taken from over 10-15 years ago ( old school vs today standard, its a rare thing to see old school "win" for many reasons).

Anyhow i wrote 2 much allready but for a conclusion, in the end the only thing that mathers is if you are having fun.

Now, if you could make the game enjoyable for those of us without the expansion, that'd just be swell!

Honestly though, that new class, level boost, adventure mode, better everything for expansion only is really kind of dickish... It alienates all of those you want to play the game, because when we look at what we have and what we will never have, it's a huge letdown to know that we can never truly enjoy the game.

@nomadsalt: Don't get me wrong, Diablo 3 has improved significantly since launch and I went back to try out that major update a while ago, but in the end, it's still Diablo 3, and a Horadric Cube isn't gonna change that. It's a cool addition, but it's not really that big of a deal.

What I mean is, it's cool for those who are still actively playing, but I don't think this update is gonna bring back most of the players who quit, or any new players at all.

The reason I still have Diablo 2 installed over Diablo 3 is because I prefer its atmosphere, its art style and its gameplay. And they can't really change that stuff with mere content updates.

That's why it's "too late", because I'm already gone. But If they made a whole new Diablo 4, I would buy it. I would probably uninstall it after finishing it once or twice (unless it's somehow better than D2), but I'd still buy it.

Hated the game when it first came out on PC:

-me and a few friends were unable to play it for weeks after purchase

-then for months after whenever a few of us were grouped - all you would get was drops, server lags, spikes, and constant spams for AH and stupid shit non-stop.

-no LAN !!!

WE have loved the console versions 7th gen and 8th gen - allow four of us in the same room, on different monitors, screaming and laughing like kids again playing D&D back in the late 80's. LAN is great for this game.

I have all but forgotten this game and booted it up again on pc - lovely game with tons to do but it has not age well with so much competition from this resurgence of CRPGs. Pillars of Eternity, Aarklash, Grimrock, Lords of xulima, Torchlights, not to mention 8th gen console games just offer too much alternatives to Diablo III.

If they would have released D3 years ago on PC with LAN support, offline support, optional everything (related to AH, community, etc), and spent more time professionally game testing then implementing publishers accountants wishlist, I think more fans would stick with this game like D2.

@jenovaschilld: you are comparing Diablo 3 to games that are completely different.

I own every game you mentioned as well as other modern isometric ARPG's like Grim Dawn, Torchlight 2, Van Helsing 1,2 and 3, Path of Exile etc and I still enjoy Diablo 3. The PC version is fantastic these days.

Diablo 3 is a good game and destroys every game that you listed like Diablo killers (lol). Only spoiled kids like you complaining about this game this way.

As much as I love Diablo1, 2 and 3 (and the expansion pack for D3). I would not agree that D3 is better than all the games he listed, Pillars Of Eternity is simply amazing and has some of the best writing in a rpg in years.
