Development suspended on BC

Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios put the brakes on prehistoric Xbox title, may revive the project later.

Development of Lionhead Studios' Xbox title BC has been suspended, says a post on the company's Lionhead Times. Developed by Lionhead's internal group Intrepid Computer Entertainment, BC was to be an action adventure in which the player controlled a tribe of cavemen, building up the tribe's resources while killing bloodthirstily anachronistic dinosaurs.

"The decision to suspend work on any games project is always a very difficult one, particularly when it is a title with the potential of BC," Lionhead's Peter Molyneux said in the brief announcement. "We hope to revive the project at a later date and will endeavor to assign as many of the team as possible to other Lionhead projects."

Today's news comes hot on the heels of Lionhead's announcement that the developer had secured $12.7 million in venture capital from a consortium of London banks.

BC was originally shown off in 2001 at Microsoft's X01 Europe press event in France, as part of a pair of Xbox-exclusive titles from Lionhead--the other being "Project Ego," which was released just last month under the title Fable.
