Destruction-Themed Racer "Next Car Game" Gets a Real Name, Finally

Say hello to Wreckfest.

Flatout creator Bugbear Entertainment has announced a new name for its demolition derby-themed racing game previously known as "Next Car Game." The project is now called Wreckfest, which Bugbear introduced with the following Urban Dictionary definition:

“Mostly common in racing series such as NASCAR and Formula 1 (aka F1). This happens on some tracks during races where the cars are close together and drivers misjudge how close the cars are. Thus, resulting in one big wreck after another.”

"As Wreckfest is all about the madness of colliding cars at breakneck speeds, a term describing the glory of tearing metal is nothing if not apt," Bugbear said.

Bugbear also announced the release of Build #6 of Wreckfest. It adds 18 player multiplayer, a new track, a new car, and improved suspension physics. For the full list of additions and fixes head over to the game's website.

Wreckfest is currently in Steam Early Access and Bugbear has yet to announce a release date. This is also just good reminder that Wreckfest's physics and destruction models are just super entertaining, as you can see in the video below.

...you used a NASCAR urban dictionary term to name your game?

This makes me question your intelligence and therefor your games quality.

Interesting, I checked this out a few months back. I was taken aback with the proliferation of itty bitty pieces that went flying off cars and was like just what the hell is that stuff? Are the cars made out of tiny pieces? Meh too much flash of things that made no sense, they should work on actual destruction of materials cars are built out of, like sheet metal, carbon fibre and the like. Next!

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Jealous :P. Having consoles and gaming pc with 1000$ graphic card is the best. Consoles wouldnt have been better without these 1000$ cards. You fail to understand that these 1000$ cards makes the industry go forward so the next generation of console can have what the pc is having.

You fail to understand the concept of marketing where developers throw out parts for as much as they think they can possibly charge, knowing damn well if it doesn't sell they'll just have to lower the price to a point where it does. The costumers deciding it's OK to charge 1000 freaking dollars for cards was ridiculous. Now we're stuck in the worst market place in the world. SMH to people complaining about the graphic cards in consoles when they have no one to blame but themselves.

This game is pretty awesome, but my one big complaint is in the destruction derby, you can get knocked out even if the back end of your car gets too damaged. In real demo derby, your trunk can be totally smashed and your car just keeps going.

Bugbear made a Ridge Racer game as well, didn't they? I didn't care much for that either. Finding out these are the guys behind this new game kills it for me.

I'm all for this game, but bad timing, Bugbear. Out of all days to introduce the name of the game using the urban dictionary definition (which involves F1) you choose today, the day one of the F1 drivers is in hospital fighting for his life after a crash.

#PrayForBianchi
EDIT: grammar.

@Peter_Desert @Taegre

I'm not sure how the title Wreckfest even applies to the Biachi crash. His accident wasn't even shown during the race feed I was watching.

The term Wreckfest also mentions NASCAR, which tends to have far more full-on wrecks compared to F1.

Its unfortunate and I hope he pulls through, but it wasn't like he was involved in 12 car wreck or something.

An oversight?...perhaps...but its a bit unfair to think a PR person is aware all that is happening in the world of racing.

@chrischupp2 Isnt it strange then that the whole reason this game is at this stage in its development is because PC gamers paid ...to play it?

<< LINK REMOVED >> I never said nor made any insinuation that console gamers would pay for it or that it was coming out on consoles. Youve missed the point.

chrischupp2 is saying that they should bring the game to consoles because "thats where people play", like they dont play on PC. Yet the whole reason the game exists is because people on PC payed for it, hence their desire to play it ...on a PC.

Capiche?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Games are cheaper to make for PC than consoles because there are no licensing fees for PC. That's why its on PC nuff said. It's a bonus for the developers that PC gamers are paying for it to be developed. If it makes enough from PC gamers it may also come to consoles.

People who own PCs are the guinea pigs. If it sells well then it could come to consoles as a full game.

But IMO its better to be a gamer on a PC for the simple fact that there are WAY more games for it and has better gaming quality overall. And this is coming from a console gamer.

- Oh right I see you admit im right then. Good for you, im glad you finally get it.

Yes I know its better to game on PC iv been doing just that for the past 25 years (30 if we include micro-computers).

As for the guinea pic comment: Id rather be a guinea pig for new innovative games than a guinea pig for targeted advertising and paid multiplayer services which let you play P2P using the bandwidth that you already pay your ISP for.

:D

Console gamers don't want PC exclusives. You guys have Driveclub and Horizon 2 to keep you happy.

Different games for different moods I guess.

I shift between PC and Console pretty easily, but I have powerful enough PC that it just makes sense to play there whenever possible.

I plan to get Project CARS for PC. No doubt it will be best played on PC, but PC also has the most steering wheel support.

As for this game, since Danny kept pointing out the physics, I have to assume this will also be best on PC, though I'd hardly call it a racing game.

I am certain to play this game with a gamepad and probably 3rd person, which is something I never do for racing games.
